Selected Religious Holidays, Celebrations and ObservancesSpring 2020 – Summer 2022This list is compiled by the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life at Bucknell University for the use of Bucknell faculty, staff and students for planning purposes. As per the April 6, 2004 vote of the Faculty (thus enacting it into policy): “...faculty are expected to be mindful of potential conflicts with religious observances, and it is incumbent upon each individual faculty member to make reasonable accommodation when a student’s observance of a religious holiday conflicts with an academic obligation.” “Scheduling for other major University events and extracurricular activities should also be done mindfully of religious holidays, and schedule conflicts should be avoided when possible so that religiously observant students are able to participate.” We understand this is not a complete list of all holidays and observances, please send any corrections or suggestions to the Office of Religious & Spiritual Life (chapel@bucknell.edu).NOTES:Holidays indicated by * have been designated non-work days by those that celebrate themSpring 2020Holiday or ObservanceTraditionDatesNotesOrthodox ChristmasOrthodox ChristianJan. 7, 2020Lunar New YearJan. 25, 2020Maha ShivaratriHinduFeb. 21, 2020Beginning of LentChristianFeb. 26, 2020Ash WednesdayChristianFeb. 26, 2020HoliHinduMar. 9-10, 2020PurimJewishSundown Mar. 9, 2020Rama NavamiHinduApr. 2, 2020PassoverJewishSundown Apr. 8-16, 2020*9-10, 15-16 non-work daysGood FridayChristianApr. 10, 2020EasterChristianApr. 12, 2020Orthodox Good FridayOrthodox ChristianApr. 17, 2020Orthodox EasterOrthodox ChristianApr. 19, 2020RamadanMuslimSundown Apr. 23, 2020Observant Muslims Fast from Sunup to Sundown.
