USP 800 considerations for Health System and Community Technicians

Medicare Prescription Drug Coverage

• Summarize Part D eligibility and enrollment requirements

• Explain how a consumer can get assistance comparing and choosing a Part D plan

• Describe Extra Help with drug plan costs

• Explain coverage determinations and the appeals process

Learn about Medicare’s prescription drug coverage and how it works in a hospital stay, outpatient setting and through Part D when self-administered. You’ll learn more about the various “coverage periods” and nuances of Medicare that will help you better understand clients’ questions about formularies, tiers, co-pays, deductibles and the dreaded “donut hole.” You’ll get ideas about helping clients with “Extra Help,” those who are dual eligible or just on the border of eligibility. You’ll be better linked up with the federally and state funded SHIBA program in your local community, so you can refer customers for assistance navigating Medicare.

Pharmacists as Medical Providers: A How to Guide

• Develop a strategy for providing patient care compensated by medical insurance

• Demonstrate how to enroll in the provider networks of health plans

• Describe differences between pharmacy claim billing and medical claim billing processes. Identify and solve software and workflow gaps in existing systems

• Articulate the value of pharmacists as patient care providers

Washington Pharmacists have a unique opportunity to bill the same as other health care providers to for providing care to patients. However, it can be difficult to understand where to start, what services can be billed, and if all the effort will be worth it. During this session, Jenny will distill the steps to ultimately bill for care provided to patients. If billing for services seems interesting, but overwhelming, this is the session for you.
