The company

A manufacturing and distribution company located in a large city in a western part of Pennsylvania.

The company has more than 1,600 employees and operates in 16 locations throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, and Asia.

Summary

Our client is seeking for a highly qualified CFO with an international approach to lead the finance department and strengthen the top management. Reporting to the CEO, the Chief Financing Officer will play an important part in the future development. Your responsibility will include financing, accounting, controlling, investor relations, as well as business development and corporate governance. The CFO is also responsible for preparing management information and decision reports for the board of directors.

Strategy

• As a true business partner to the CEO and executives, assess organizational performance against both the annual budget and the company’s long-term strategy;

• Develop tools and systems to provide critical financial and operational information to the CEO and make actionable recommendations on both strategy and operations;

• Engage the board finance, audit, and investment committees around issues, trends, and changes in the operating model(s) and operational delivery;

• Assist in establishing yearly objectives and meeting agendas, and selecting and engaging outside consultants (auditors, investment advisors);

• Oversee long-term budgetary planning and costs management.

Executive Management

• Serve as a member of executive leadership team;

• Participate in key decisions pertaining to strategic initiatives, operating model and operational execution.

Financial Planning and Analysis

• Prepare and maintain regular financial planning reports; Monthly profit and loss forecast by division (vs budget);

• Complete analysis of financial results; Develop recommendations (strategic and tactical);

• Develop and execute analysis of various business initiatives (e.g., opening new operations, asset acquisition, new service launches);

• Develop and maintain capital budget;

• Assist in development of financial planning and analysis exercises/reports.

Finance

• Develop and utilize forward-looking, predictive models and activity-based financial analyses to provide insight into the organization’s operations and business plans;

• Planning, Policy, and Investor Relations;

• Coordinate the development and monitoring of budgets;

• Develop financial business plans and forecasts;

• Participate in corporate policy development as a member of the senior management team;

• Engage the finance committee of the board of directors to develop short, medium and long-term financial plans and projections;

• Represent the company to financial partners, including financial institutions, investors, auditors, public officials, etc.

Accounting and Administration

• Oversee the accounting department to ensure proper maintenance of all accounting systems and function;

• Ensure maintenance of appropriate internal controls and financial procedures;

• Ensure timeliness, accuracy, and usefulness of financial and management reporting for federal; oversee the preparation and communication of monthly and annual financial statements;

• Coordinate audits and proper filing of tax returns;

• Ensure legal and regulatory compliance regarding all financial functions.

Team Management

• Mentor and develop the direct team, managing work allocation, training problem resolution, performance evaluation and the building of an effective team dynamic.

Accounting Activities

• Oversee preparation of month-end, quarter-end and year-end financial statements;

• Serve as final point of escalation for Accounts Receivable/Accounts Payable issues;

• Develop and manage accounting staff;

• Serve as a key point of contact for external auditors; Manage preparation and support of all external audits.

Cash Management

• Oversee weekly cash management; Approve weekly payables; Execute check signing;

• Oversee AR management and provide support to collections activities.

Corporate Development

• Represent company in efforts with investment bankers and potential invertors;

• Prepare various analyses and reports required by corporate development efforts.

Education and experience

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting;

• Eight years plus of accounting and finance experience in a similar position, specifically public company experience;

• CPA and prior public accounting experience are desirable;

• Strong written and oral communication skills are essential;

• Financial experience and management experience with the day-to-day financial operations of an organization of at least $1 billion;

• Global perspective. The ability to adapt quickly to different cultures with an appreciation for the added value diverse perspectives provides a business;

• Political savvy with the ability to assess situations and quickly identify how to proceed through both formal and informal channels to assure objectives are met;

• Flexible, strategic team player with high integrity and ethical standards;

• Proven track record in adding value to companies.

Knowledge skills and abilities

Leadership Competencies

Leadership - As the supervisor for all company administration, the candidate must be autonomous and demonstrate leadership and management skills.

Strategic sense - The candidate must be able to create a business plan and implement the priorities established by the company management team. In addition, the Chief Financial and Administration Officer should be able to play the role of top advisor to the President and be an important liaison with the rest of the organization.

Team spirit - The candidate must demonstrate excellent listening skills, powers of persuasion, as well as diplomacy. The candidate should be able to rally other members of the team around the priorities established by the Company and ensure cohesion in the organization’s attempt to implement action plans.

Decision making - The Chief Financial and Administration Officer should be a manager capable of making reliable decisions that support Company’s credibility among partners and other members of the management team.

Judgement - The candidate must demonstrate the ability to make pertinent decisions that respond to predetermined priorities, in conjunction with the President, in order to ensure that activities are aligned with the organization’s business plan.

Integrity - The Chief Financial and Administration Officer must demonstrate the utmost integrity. Although he or she will have to make difficult decisions, the candidate must be recognized for being fair and maintaining clear guidelines.

Flexibility - While it is essential to maintain clear guidelines that are understood by all, the candidate may, if necessary, adapt decisions to the specifications of different Company departments.

Creativity - Creativity in this position is identified as an ability to find new approaches to resolving problems.
