RELATIONSHIPS:- The postholder is responsible to the Head teacher for teaching duties and responsibilities and for the supervision of the work of the school assistant and voluntary helpers.

The postholder interacts on a professional level with colleagues and seeks to establish and maintain productive relationships with them in order to promote mutual understanding of subjects in the school curriculum with the aim of improving the quality of teaching and learning in the school.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:- To undertake the teaching of general subjects to a mixed ability Reception class and pastoral and administrative duties in respect of pupils in this class as well as the responsibilities in the school as agreed with the Head teacher.

KEY TASKS;

• to teach general subjects as agreed with the Head Teacher to a mixed ability Reception class and to participate in the development of schemes of work, materials and syllabuses for such subjects, attending meetings on such matters as necessary;

• to control and oversee the use and storage of books, stationery and other teaching materials related to teaching, ensuring that any Health and Safety Regulations are observed;

• to carry out the duties of a class teacher in respect of pupils to include;

• the maintenance of discipline and acceptable standards of conduct of pupils;

• the establishment of a rapport with pupils to develop their social and academic potential and to be a main source of reference for their problems;

• the compilation of reports and profiles on pupils as required;

• the undertaking of any other administrative duties in respect of the class as required by the Head Teacher;

• the setting and marking of homework for pupils, where appropriate, playing a part in assemblies escorting the class to assemblies and attending staff meetings as required.

• the supervision of the work of the school assistant and voluntary helpers appropriate to the class;

• the supervision of pupils as detailed by the Head Teacher;

• the participation as required in meetings with colleagues, other professionals and parents in respect of the duties and responsibilities of the post;

• the awareness of trends and developments in education, especially those relevant to the duties and responsibilities of the post. To incorporate new ideas and implement schemes which have been agreed.

The duties and responsibilities of the post are subject to those detailed in the national Statement of Conditions of Employment and will count as directed time as detailed in that statement, and as defined by the Head teacher

In addition the postholder will undertake specific responsibilities as follows:-

It is desirable that the post-holder will support the development of the Early Years Foundation Stage within the school, including the pre-school setting Little Rascal. This will involve working within the Early Years Team to reviewing the relevant policy documentation with the Head teacher and staff as outlined in the School Development Plan and assist in producing relevant schemes of work for the children. Dependent upon the post-holder’s experience, responsibilities may include the following:

• To advise the Head teacher on the provision of resources for the subject and keep an up to date list of equipment.

1. To maintain the central resource area for the subject

2. To participate in INSET, informing other members of staff and advising on current practice and developments.

3. To liaise with the team of parent volunteer helpers, when appropriate

As teacher with responsibility for one of the early years’ class in the new Upper Rissington site, it is expected that the post-holder will take a key role in continuing the development of the new setting within the new school build and developing good links with the school community.
