Chief Education Officer (CEO) Job DescriptionDepartment of Education?Diocese of Rockville Centre, NY?Position Description??The Department of Education (DOE) of the Diocese of Rockville Centre, in Long Island, New York is seeking a Chief Education Officer (CEO) to revitalize and lead the Diocese’s 31 elementary schools and two high schools. This past year, in partnership with the Morning Star Initiative (MSI) Team the Diocese of Rockville Centre DOE has undergone a complete transformation. The MSI Team, led by Chief Revitalization Officer, Brother Thomas Cleary, has undertaken a true revitalization of DOE elementary schools focused on strengthening schools in: 1) Catholic Identity 2) Academic Excellence, 3) Safe and Supportive Communities, and 4) Here to Stay (Sustainability). Built on these four pillars of the MSI, the DOE has strengthened curriculum, implemented an academic benchmarking tool to enable data driven instruction, restructured the leadership and organization of the Department of Education, and made investments in marketing, academic rigor and Catholic teachings. A search committee, comprising the MSI team, the Most Reverend Bishop Barres and the Interim Superintendent, Dr. Denise Smith, is looking for a leader to build on the many successes of the DOE and carry forward the torch of revitalization. Working in tandem with the MSI, the CEO’s primary goal will be to ensure the formation in the Catholic faith of our more than ten thousand students along with strengthening the Catholic identity, academic excellence, and sustainable growth of DRVC schools. Key ResponsibilitiesThe CEO will spearhead and lead strategic initiatives, supporting the school revitalization efforts of the MSI. This role will include working directly with the Chief Revitalization Officer and Diocesan leadership to guide DOE schools toward a brighter future. Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following:Strengthen schools in relation to the four pillars of the Morning Star Initiative: 1) Catholic Identity 2) Academic Excellence, 3) Safe and Supportive, 4) Here to Stay Oversee the strengthening of Catholic identity in DOE schools through the implementation of quality religious education in all schools. Report to the Vicar General and the Education Corporation regarding the operation and status of Catholic schools in the Diocese of Rockville Centre Collaborate with the MSI, community members, religious leaders, school leaders, and other thought leaders to build and refine a vision for Catholic education in the DioceseWork closely with all diocesan ministries to support the strengthening of communities of Catholic faith Work with school principals to strengthen educational programs within all schools Provide guidance / resources for spiritual development of administrators and staff In collaboration with the Office of Catechesis and Evangelization, provide support to school administrators in forming active faith communities of students, faculty and supporting organizations Work collaboratively with the Tomorrow’s Hope Foundation to strengthen and grow the role of philanthropic support in Catholic Education on Long IslandSet school recruitment and enrollment targets and empower Enroll and Engagement Coordinator to lead targeted, creative recruitment efforts across Long IslandCreate a reputation for creative learning environments addressing the talents of all students Strengthen the leadership, program management, professional development and classroom capability across all schools Achieve long term stability for all schools based on the implementation of sound financial budgets based on realistic goals and collaborative and transparent planning. Support pastors with resources and guidance needed to effectively manage successful schoolsMonitor key changes in New York State and federal law and regulations which impact Catholic SchoolsDevelop positive, productive culture within the Department of Education for each Assistant Superintendent and employee to take ownership and lead his/her workstream. Extensive experience leading and/or teaching in a Catholic school or Catholic school system. If baptized as a Roman Catholic, the candidate must be a practicing Catholic in good standing.Strong understanding of and support for the mission of Catholic Education and the culture of the Catholic Diocese with a preference for candidates with experience in Catholic schools.Track record of developing and implementing strategic plans without significant oversight or guidance. Must have an ability to navigate uncertainty and ambiguity, and to prioritize work efforts to execute overall strategy.Willingness to challenge the status quo and embrace change to create a vibrant Catholic culture in every school through collaboration with the Office of Catechesis and mitment to the spiritual formation of the interior life of students, teachers, and their families through Eucharistic evangelization and increasing attendance at Sunday Mass among students and their families.Familiarity with the culture and traditions of the Catholic ChurchEmbodiment of the spirit of servant leadership Familiarity with the diocesan schools of Long Island and their unique challenges Excellent written and verbal communication skillsFamiliarity and strong comfort level with business acumen, including experience with school budgets, contractor/vendor management and staffing planning. ................
