-345440-260350Job DescriptionJob Title:Advisory Teacher for Hearing ImpairedStrategic Team:Hearing Impaired Advisory TeamService:Business Unit:Special Educational NeedsEducation, Children’s ServicesResponsible To: (day to day issues)Hearing Impaired Advisory Team LeadAccountable To: (line manager) Senior Educational PsychologistSalary Grade: (Spinal column points only) JE Ref:Qualified Teacher pay spine + 2 SEN pointsKey Purpose of JobTo teach and otherwise to ensure appropriate education for children with impaired hearing and to offer an advisory service for parents/carers and school staff with the aim of enabling these children to reach their potential for learning within the objectives, policies and standards set by the Authority.To meet the statutory requirements to support Torbay children with impaired hearing.To provide appropriate data and information to help inform strategic developments.Anticipated Outcomes of PostTo enable all children with impaired hearing to achieve their potential.All student records will be accurate and up-to-date.List Key Duties and accountabilities of the post To teach and otherwise to ensure appropriate education for children with impaired hearing, and to offer an advisory teaching / training service for parents/carers and school staff and pupils, with the aim of enabling these children and young people to reach their potential for learning within the objectives, policies and standards set by the Authority.To provide regular educational assessment, reports, and advice on children with impaired hearing, and to monitor their audiological management. Advisory teachers will be required to check correct fitting, adjustment, maintenance and evaluation of specialist hearing equipment to enable optimum use of equipment by individual youngsters.To contribute towards formal assessments and monitor the needs of children with impaired hearing in consultation with Doctors, Educational Psychologists and others.To offer specialist teaching support and guidance to the pre-school child and his/her family from the time of diagnosis.To contribute to the professional development of colleagues through mutual support and sharing of information.To establish and maintain effective links with parents/carers, support groups, pre school providers, mainstream schools, special schools, FE providers, Social Care and Health Services, and other agencies.To offer advice regarding educational placement and to enable smooth transition for children with impaired hearing from home to school, and school transfer.To assist in developing and implementing whole school policies for the management of pupils with impaired hearing and to support their transition from one space to another, and to ensure access to the whole curriculum including the National Curriculum.To contribute to the development, implementation and review of provision for hearing impaired children and young people, their families, and teachers within the objectives and priorities set by the Service Development Plan.To plan, implement and evaluate training in accordance with the Service Development Plan.To participate in meetings with children, parents, teachers governing bodies, officers and outside agencies, as necessary.Responsible for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children at all timesTo undertake any other duties as the Head Of Service (SEND) may determine.
