|The Patient and Resource Flow Coordinator optimizes the staffing, equipment and supplies necessary to ensure the best possible experience patients cared for in the |

|universal care unit of The American Center. The Patient and Resource Flow Coordinator acts as a resource and liaison between the Emergency Department, Perioperative |

|Services, Overnight Care and other clinical areas, who share resources in order to provide the most efficient care possible at The American Center. Access, quality and|

|timeliness of service delivery will be monitored and directly influenced by this position. |

|The incumbent has detailed knowledge of workflows and systems within the departments who share resources, within the universal care unit and The American Center, in |

|general. Resources include associates, space, equipment, supplies, and clinical expertise. Knowledge of sound nursing practice, overall hospital administration, |

|emergency management, crisis intervention, conflict resolution, negotiation and delegation are essential to effective performance. The Patient and Resource Flow |

|Coordinator reports directly to the Director of Perioperative and Emergency Services at The American Center. |

|MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES |

| Technical Skill: Incumbent performs his/her job demonstrating technical ability, understanding of job expectations and compliance with organizational policies and |

|procedures. The incumbent performs the following job responsibilities: |

| |

|A. Administration of resources to provide optimum patient and family care. |

| |

|Review operational reports and perioperative schedules proactively and adjust resources and supplies necessary to meet the demand. |

| |

|Assign or re-assign associates, if necessary, to provide optimum patient care based on assessment of related information. |

|Communicate rationale for re-assignments to the appropriate clinical department leader(s). |

|Work in conjunction with the department leader(s) to coordinate resources with patient care needs. |

|6. Carry out admissions/triage functions in addition to all other responsibilities. |

| |

|7. Document all required information as per department standards. |

| |

|8. Provide report to the oncoming Nursing Coordinator or Nursing Resource Center staff. |

| |

|Function as a clinical expert to assess and determine the resources needed to care for patients. |

| |

|Projects resource needs continually by viewing the bed board, surgery schedule, Emergency Department volume, clinic volume. Informs the appropriate departmental leader |

|of issues related to patient placement. |

| |

|Deploys resources based on patient care needs across all areas of The American Center. |

| |

|Predicts patient needs based on patterns including perioperative service, Emergency Department volumes and physician clinics admission volumes. |

| |

|Conducts a huddle at the beginning of the day and as needed throughout the day with the clinical leaders to coordinate and direct the overall plan of the current and |

|projected resource needs. S/he coordinates and directs this process throughout the day. |

| |

|Solicits key pieces of information during the day to identify the clinical needs, resources available and capacity indicators. Promotes communication between all |

|disciplines and departments as it relates to availability of resources and capacity. |

| |

|Refers complex situations to Director, Perioperative Services and Emergency Department, VP for Clinical and Interventional Services and/or Hospital Administrator |

|on-call. |

| |

|Assists with the ongoing development and refinement processes and reports for continuous improvement in workflows and the patient and family experience. |

| |

|Communicates capacity indicators to the leadership team. |

| |

|Participates in and assists in the ongoing development of policies and procedures, etc. related to resource allocation. |

| |

| |

|E. Develop own clinical and coaching skills in accordance with the goals and objectives of The American Center and consistent with position responsibilities. |

| |

|Evaluate personal professional development needs, develop goals and objectives, formulate and institute action plan. |

| |

|Attend continuing education classes and read pertinent literature in keeping with objectives. |

| |

|Function as a role model for staff with regard to investment in own personal growth and development as well as a clinical expert in an identified clinical specialty and|

|as a supervisor. |

| |

|JOB REQUIREMENTS |

|Education |Minimum |Bachelor’s in nursing |

| |Preferred |Master’s degree |

|Work Experience |Minimum |At least three (3) years of perioperative nursing experience. |

| |Preferred |Previous experience in a formal leadership role such as care team leader, nurse supervisor or nurse manager. |

| | |Adult and Pediatric experience. |

|Licenses & Certifications |Minimum |RN, Licensed in State of Wisconsin |

|Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities |Knowledge of the policies, procedures and practices of the state, university, and hospital that are relevant |

| |Knowledge of staffing models and resource allocation. |

| |Knowledge of decision-making process and sound management practices. |

| |Strong political and negotiation skills that are conceptual as well as practical. |

| |Demonstrated interpersonal skills necessary to interact with all levels of hospital personnel and external |

| |parties. Must be comfortable with an interdisciplinary culture of collaboration. |

| |Strong and confident sense of personal accountability. |
