Action Against Hunger has been working in Liberia since 1991 with the purpose to respond to the needs of the most vulnerable people, at first during the emergencies and then in a more development setting, until the 2014 Ebola outbreak and the emergency it generated in the country. Action Against Hunger interventions in Liberia aim at improving the nutrition security of the population, with particular focus on children under-five and pregnant and lactating women. AAH aims at doing so by implementing multisectorial programs, which encompass direct nutrition intervention and prevention activities to address the underlining causes of undernutrition, i.e. poor health, food insecurity, poor care practices, and poor access to water and sanitation. AAH has also an integrated advocacy strategy in the mission that cut across all the sectors. Action Against Hunger work with scaling up nutrition (SUN) movement in Liberia aim to provide enabling policy environment and investment in nutrition. Action Against hunger is recruiting an advocacy officer that will closely work with SUNCSAL in Liberia on initial short term period of 4 months with possibility of extension depending funding

Position: Advocacy Officer Start Date: November 1, 2019 Competitive Salary Package and Allowances Duration of Contract:: Initial four Months (4 Months) Location: Monrovia

Job Objective: The Advocacy Officer is responsible to implement the advocacy projects and contribute to the mission advocacy strategy implementation

Key Responsibilities :

Work closely with SUNCSAL in the implementation of project activities-including the review and progress tracking against work plan and milestones,

Work with the SUNCSAL advocacy focal person in updating the SUNCSAL strategy and plans Jointly plan, and support the implementation of the project activities Conduct and co facilitate high level policy discussions with the key stakeholders in line with the

project targets Be responsible for the management of project information, documentation and lessons learned

sharing; including timely internal and external project reporting Contribute in developing the mission communication strategy consistent with Action Against

Hunger - branding guidelines and Action Against Hunger Liberia Country Strategy contribute to the proposals (or advocacy objectives within mission's proposals)

Participate in the different communication events organized by NGOs, Donors, Civil society, Community Based Organization and other stakeholders.

Assist the technical departments and operational teams (PMs, Field coordinator) to develop communication and visibility in their programs

Relations External

Represent Action Against Hunger in the advocacy working groups Attend and present advocacy project in the key stakeholder forums in

country developing and coordinating partnerships with other parties on

advocacy activities (NGO, civil society) and facilitating joint advocacy activities

Qualifications required: B.Sc. Degree in Communication, Management, Social Sciences or other related field. Previous experience in a similar position or good knowledge and experience of the advocacy environment, as Advocacy Officer with at least 2 years in aid/development sector

Required Competence and Skills: Fluency in English (written and spoken) and local language Excellent writing skills and capacity of analysis, compilation and synthesis of information Good knowledge of media, humanitarian and local context and actors Ability to take pictures in a professional way Good knowledge of Windows XP and MS Office 2007 (Word, Excel, Outlook, IE) Ability to use social networks such as Facebook, Tweeter, Instagram Good organization skills and ability to set priorities Communication skills and ability to relate to people Ability to negotiate and conflict management skills Dynamic, flexible and pro-active attitude: real autonomy required Ability to work in diverse environment with short deadlines and intense pressure
