Local Installation using MantlesHave mantles for each board member that will be participating in the installation (mantles can be shawls, pashminas, or any other item draped over the leader’s shoulders. Colors are just suggestions; the entire group may have the same color if desired. The responsive reading may be used as written, or the concepts in the reading may be incorporated in the chaplain’s script without responses.Chaplain: We are gathered together today to install the newly selected officers of the Protestant Women of the Chapel. Within this ceremony we desire to extol the importance of the work of Christian women like yourselves. The gifts, deeds and prayers of Christian women in the Bible such as Anna, Tabitha and Lydia have furthered the cause of Christ throughout the history of the Church. We are grateful for the vision and the faithfulness of Christian women who, in the past, have served gladly. Today we come together to express our gratitude to God for giving us these women on our board who have faithfully and creatively set an example of working together for Christ. The passing of responsibilities will be symbolized through the passing of mantles.Please stand and read along with me:Responsive ReadingPWOC Chaplain: Two synonyms for “installation” are “celebration” and “commission.” As we prepare to install new officers onto the PWOC board, it is appropriate that we contemplate both of these terms. Body: This installation service is indeed a celebration. PWOC Chaplain: We celebrate the dedicated service and countless hours of effort sacrificed by the women who complete their terms of office today, we celebrate the fact that when the call went out for those who would serve the Lord through this ministry, these women stepped forward. Body: As in the days of Isaiah, when the Lord asked, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?”… each of these women answered, “Here am I! Send me.” PWOC Chaplain: For your dedication and service, we say to you, as we are sure the Lord says to you, “Well done, my good and faithful servants.”All: This installation service is also a commissioning. PWOC Chaplain: To commission someone means to authorize them to serve in a particular function. Today, we commission those women, who will serve as the new PWOC Board for the next year. Body: We are grateful that you, too, have heard and accepted the call of Christ to lead this ministry.Chaplain: Please be seated. Would the incoming and outgoing boards please come forward….From the time of Exodus in Biblical history, a mantle was a covering that represented a calling to service and covenant relationship with God. In the Old Testament, the transference of the mantle from Elijah to Elisha signified both the passing of prophetic responsibility and God’s accompanying power. According to Jewish tradition, the mantle of Elijah was placed in a small chamber in the golden altar. Hundreds of years later, Zechariah removed the garment and kept it for the ministry of his son, John the Baptist. Many believed John the Baptist was Elijah, perhaps because, as John wore the material mantle of Elijah, the spiritual mantle of Elijah also rested upon him. According to Luke 1:17, John operated in the “spirit and power of Elijah.”In the same way, the outgoing PWOC board members would tell you that they did not operate in their own spirit and power during the past year. Instead, I believe they would tell you that it was only through the spirit and power of the Lord Jesus Christ that they were able to do all that was accomplished. Scripture speaks of this idea as “putting on Christ.” (Romans 13:14) As we “put on Christ,” we serve not in our own nature and strength, but in such a way that others see Him through us. It is important to understand that each of the incoming board members will have specific job responsibilities related to the office for which she has been selected. Yet each will function as uniquely called servants, while seeking Christ’s unity and oneness of purpose. In keeping with Christ’s unity, we focus on the higher call – a call that is more important and far-reaching than any of these positional responsibilities. Each outgoing executive board member wears a mantle that represents the components of putting on Christ’s mantle – the mantles of Leadership, Servanthood, Preparation, Stewardship and Sisterhood. As each mantle is exchanged, it will be accepted on behalf of the entire board. (Administrative board members also wear mantles representing the light of Christ in our daily lives and to those who are lost without Him in a dark world.The Current Titus II advisor(s) will replace outgoing executive board members’ mantles with ongoing prayer mantles, representative of continued prayer commitment on behalf of the incoming board.Presidents step toward middle of platform, facing each otherPWOC Chaplain:The outgoing President wears the mantle of leadership, symbolic of the consecrated call of Christ that has brought you to this place. Accepting this mantle means that you believe you have been called for such a time as this, though you may not even understand why. This is a call that asks more from you than you can give on your own. It is the call that led Peter to get out of the boat and walk on water. It is the call that enabled David to stand against a giant. It is the call that summoned a stammering Moses to speak for a nation. It is the call that led the least of the least, a man named Gideon, to lead a victorious army. It is the call that equipped Esther for “such a time as this!” Perhaps as you answer this call, you wonder whether you are the right person to accept a mission so great and how you will accomplish all that must be done. Remember, as you accept this mantle of leadership, you put on Christ – the power of God and the wisdom of God (1 Cor. 24). It is not you who will do this thing, but Christ in you, the hope of glory. It is a call that requires both sacrifice and obedience. Daily, you must choose the things of God over the things that are merely good. You must nourish your spirit daily, if not moment by moment, by drinking in His living water -- and you must learn to delight in Him as He bends you and molds your will into His. Allow Him to call you to step out of whatever boat of comfort you might be in -- in exchange for a greater vision of Him and His work. Allow Him to show you how to stand against the giants that would try to block the way of this ministry. Allow Him to speak through your mouth to encourage and exhort. And, though you may see yourself as the least of the least, allow Him to show you that you are a mighty warrior in His sight. Allow Him to equip you for such a time as this, all the while surrendered at His feet! _(name)__as President you have been set apart by these women and by God to do what is in His plan. You are set apart, not for glory or honor, but for humble servant leadership. Two precious gifts are yours: the grace and love of our Lord, Jesus Christ, and a specific task in the Church, His body on earth today. Scripture says that He set aside the privileges of deity and lived a selfless, obedient life.As you answer this call to servanthood, you too may wonder whether you are the right person to accept a mission so great and how you will accomplish all that must be done. But remember, as you accept this mantle, you put on Christ – (1 Cor. 24) you clothe yourself in humility. 1 Peter 5:5-10 says, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble. Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time; casting all your care upon Him; for he cares for you.” As you clothe yourself with humility, He will give you all the grace you need to do all He has asked you to do.The mantle of servanthood also requires a call to accountability. Be willing to submit to those who can advise you well. Remember that everything you are, and everything you possess is a gift from God. It is imperative that you daily cast down pride and put on humility. Remember that God’s approval counts more than man’s highest praise._(name)_as 1st Vice President in charge of Spiritual Life it is your responsibility to pray for and assist the President and to act in her place whenever necessary. You should be prepared to assume the office and responsibilities of the President should she no longer be able to perform her duties. Additionally, it is your duty and responsibility to provide opportunities for spiritual development through prayer, devotions, and Bible study. As you answer this call to preparation, you may wonder whether you are the right person to accept a mission so great and how you will accomplish all that must be done. But remember, as you accept this mantle, you put on Christ – (1 Cor. 24) You can be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. With this in mind, put on the full armor of God so that you will be able to stand your ground. Remember that truth, righteousness, peace, faith, and salvation are more than words. Learn how to apply them. God’s Word is an indispensable weapon. In the same way, prayer is essential to the success of this ministry. Pray hard and long. It means that you will remind this body of believers that we all have one Master, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father, who rules over all, works through all, and is present in all. (Eph 4:1) We are sisters in the Lord.As you answer this call to unity, you may wonder whether you are the right person to accept a mission so great and how you will accomplish all that must be done. But remember, as you accept this mantle, you put on Christ – (1 Cor. 24). He tore down the wall sin created and became the bridge to Himself and to each other. He brought us together through his death on the Cross. Because of the cross, we embrace as sisters in Christ, bound by His love, kindred hearts united. _(name)_, as Administrative Coordinator it shall be your duty to coordinate communication within and for this PWOC chapter by keeping records of all board meetings and communicating on behalf of the President as needed. That the earth truly is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof (Psalm 24:1) and He desires to bless us through our obedience to Him.As you answer this call to stewardship, you may wonder whether you are the right person to accept a mission so great and how you will accomplish all that must be done. But remember, as you accept this mantle, you put on Christ – (1 Cor. 24). As Financial Liaison you will coordinate all monetary transactions according to Chapel financial procedures and keep all financial records, as well as promote good stewardship among the women of this PWOC. For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. (2 Cor. 4:6), To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory (Col 1:27). Revering God above all means surrendering self and immersing oneself in Him. Under God’s protective canopy of prayer, His power will be unleashed in unfathomable, immeasurable ways. As you submit to Him, adoring your Redeemer, bowed at His feet, pray without ceasing, for this is the will of God.Each of these new board members has accepted the call to put on the mantle of Christ. For each of them, it involves putting on the mantles of Leadership, Servanthood, Preparation, Stewardship, Sisterhood, and Hope; always under the protective mantle of Prayer. As members of this PWOC body, the call to put on the mantle of Christ goes out to you as well. The PWOC motto is, “We are workers together for Christ.” As such, you will be asked to perform many tasks which will contribute to the functioning of the whole body. As you share in this work, you will foster love and understanding within this fellowship. You will have a Christ-like influence on those around you. As you are invited to take up these mantles, will you accept this board and offer them your support and prayers? If so, please say, “I will, with the help of God.”Body: “I will, with the help of God.”PWOC Chaplain: Please pray with me.Dear Heavenly Father,We thank you for these women who have served you, and who will serve you as leaders for our PWOC body in the year ahead. We ask you to encourage them with the knowledge that, though these jobs are over, their work is not done, as they still wear your mantle, though in a different way. For those who now say, “Send me,” we ask that you will pour out a double measure of your grace on them. As they serve, may you pour upon each your Spirit and your power.
