PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 GENERAL

1. For additional details of any systems or components contact the University of Manitoba CCMS Shop, phone 474-6883.

2. Confirm all hardware in shop drawings, where specific ranges and features will be finalized.

3. Include for all components and adapters required to connect tubing, and wiring, and to mount field devices, such as temperature sensors.

4. Refer to 15900 for general requirements, and Sections 15920 and 15950 to determine scope of work.

5. All control work will be done by the Field Control Contractor, except the work described in 15920, which will be done by the panel control contractor. Co-operate fully with 15920, including shop drawings, installation, and commissioning. Work includes, but is not limited to, selection, supply, installation, connection, and commissioning of:

1. All field hardware, including all sensors, actuators, valves and control dampers.

2. All field wiring including network communication (modbus, MS/TP, and RS485 twisted pair) and all piping. All data communication cables (co-ax, Ethernet and fiber) shall be installed and tested by one of the Qualified Voice/Data Contractors from Section 16741.

3. Test results to be provided in electronic and paper form as per Section 16740.

4. Label wires with LeGrand CAB cable markers. Label network communication cables with Panduit markers, model *PLFIMA-C. Label with cable number, control computer name, location, and address for both terminations.

5. Assist Section 15920 with check out and testing only.

6. Provide as-built communication network schematic showing locations of all cable connector splices. Also provide as-built field wiring and piping drawings in AutoCAD format.

7. For non-DDC controls, provide a complete control system, incorporating controls provided with equipment.

1.2 CO-OPERATION

1. Co-operate fully with the Section 15920 and other trades to ensure a complete working system in a timely manner.

1. Ranges to suit application, i.e. middle 50% of instrument range.

2. For other sensors contact U of M CCMS Shop

3. Freezstat to trip when 300 mm (12”) of element is below set point.

2.2 DAMPERS

.1 Johnson CD-1320 opposed blade, two piece 22 gauge galvanized blades, 13 gauge galvanized frame, self-adjusting stainless side seals. Santoprene blade seals, zinc plated linkage and blade pin. Provide optional oil impregnated bronze bearings. Temperature range - 40ºC to 93ºC. Velocity limit 4000 FPM, at 6" wg. Maximum size 1 x 1 meter, unless specifically approved. Factory order number COPBS. Leakage less than 10 CFM/Sq. Ft. at 2000 FPM and 4" number COPBS. Leakage less than 10 CFM/Sq. Ft. at 2000 FPM and 4" WC.

2.3 DAMPER OPERATORS

1. Provide spring return for "fail safe" in normally open or normally closed position.

2. Size operators for control dampers against maximum pressure or dynamic closing pressure, which ever is greater.

3. Provide adjustable external stops to limit stroke in both directions.

4. All mixed air system operators to have positioners.

Notes:

.1 3-12 Psig spring range or split range, as required.

.2 Pressure drop approximately 5-10 ft. w.c., unless otherwise specified. For 3 way valves, pressure drop 2 to 3 times coil pressure drop.

.3 POS = positioner.

.4 Valves 3” and above to have positioners.

.5 All steam diaphragms to be high temperature, i.e., Steam can be 500°F.

.6 Refer to Specification Section 15050 for steam control valve details.

.7 Steam valves may be normally open or normally closed depending on application. Review with designer before making final selection. Glycol convertors & domestic hot water to be normally closed only.

2.5 TEMPERATURE SENSOR WELLS

1. Brass wells of size to suit bulb with union and dielectric element.

2. Provide heat transfer grease in every thermowell.

6. ROOM TEMPERATURE SENSORS

.1 All room temperature sensors shall be DDC and shall be supplied by Section 15920, University of Manitoba CCMS Shop. Unit heater and force flow thermostats shall be pneumatic, with guards in public areas.

2.7 VARIABLE AIR VOLUME TERMINALS

1. All VAV controls and associated radiation or reheat controls shall be DDC and shall be supplied by Section 15920, University of Manitoba CCMS Shop. This shall include the Zone controller (c/w flow transducer, Belimo actuator, and auxiliary outputs for associated radiation, reheat, or radiant panel valves) and room sensor (BACstat model no. DNS-24).

2. Control valves for radiation or reheat systems shall be supplied by this section.

3. Wiring and piping between the room sensor, the zone controller, and associated control valves shall be by this section.

4. Division 15910 shall be responsible for mounting DDC VAV box zone controllers.

2.8 STEAM HUMIDIFIERS

1. Humidifiers c/w control valve shall be provided by Section 15600.

2. Section 15910 to provide all controls (room humidistat, duct sensors, etc. as applicable), and ensure all interlocks and interconnection are properly made to provide a fully operational humidification control system as specified in Section 15950.

3. Refer to Section 15600 for further requirements.

2.9 AIR QUALITY SENSORS

1. Wiring between the CO2 sensor and associated controllers shall be by this section.

2. Division 15910 shall be responsible for mounting CO2 sensors.

2.11 UTILITY METERS

1. All utility meters shall be supplied by this section.

6. Wiring between the meters and associated controllers shall be by this section.

7. Division 15 shall be responsible for mounting utility meters.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 GENERAL

1. Refer to Section 15900 for general requirements.

2. Control panels to be supplied by Section 15920 and mounted by this section. Acceptable panel locations to be determined in conjunction with Section 15910.

3. Locate sensor points generally where shown and specified. Finalize locations with shop drawings, ensuring that the Manufacturer's recommendations are met.

4. Advise Sections 15400, 15600 and 15800 of modifications and required details prior to their installation, to ensure adequate straight runs, etc. 5 Averaging elements shall provide excellent duct coverage (1 sensor per square meter of duct-minimum) unless otherwise approved. Support on 12 gauge annealed galvanized wire with plastic ties.

5. Freezstat elements shall be attached on the heating coil, directly behind the tubes. Crossovers between tubes shall be protected to avoid false trips.

3.2 VALVES

1. Label valves clearly, include instructions, and supervise installer as required to ensure Manufacturer's recommendations are followed, and maintenance access is convenient.

3.3 DAMPERS

.1 Confirm installation is properly done (square and flat, in particular), and operating torques are within published limits. Ensure operators have 150% of minimum power required.

.2 Install positioners on all outside intake and outside relief dampers for additional power and accuracy under frosted conditions.

.3 When requested, distribute dampers on site to their respective location. Provide instructions and required supervision to installer.

3.4 VARIABLE SPEED DRIVERS

.1 This section shall be responsible for extending all VSD control wiring to DDC controllers.

.3 VSD supplier and Division 16 shall review and approve installation before energizing units. Confirm approval to consultant.
