An overview of the study findings and a list of recent publications is available in their Comprehensive Medication Management in Primary Care Study Executive Summary and CMM Research in Primary Care Study Publications documents.The Journal of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (JACCP) serves as a home for research involving the pharmacists’ patient care process. JACCP continues to see a growth in submissions, resulting in an increase in publication to 12 issues per year. Drs. Melissa Badowski and Shawn McFarland will serve as the editors for the next themed issue entitled Clinical Pharmacy Services Provided by Telehealth. The deadline for article submission for this themed issue is January 15, 2021. A call for papers has also been issued for a themed issue on The Opioid Crisis: Opportunities for Clinal Pharmacy Practice. This themed issue will be edited by Drs. Suzanne Nesbit from The Johns Hopkins Hospital, Nadia Jubran from Department of Veterans Affairs, and Jerry L. Bauman, JACCP Editor-in-Chief. The deadline for article submission for this issue is July 15, 2021.Value of Pharmacists’ Patient Care ServicesACCP continue to participate in the Get the Medications Right Institute (GTMRx). Workgroups led by staff representatives from ACCP, AACP, ASHP, pharmacy leaders from the VA system have developed a series of documents for a wide range of stakeholders, including a summary of current research supporting the value of CMM, use cases from established CMM practice sites, and a value framework for payers and employers were recently published on the Institute’s website in a section titled Tools from Our Experts. A review of CMM written by GTMRx workgroup members has also been accepted for publication in the April issue of the American Journal of Medicine. The brief summative review provides an overview of the CMM process of care and highlights recent studies demonstrating its value in achieving all four components of the quadruple aim of healthcare. A pre-print of the AJM article is available here.ACCP has also recently published a commentary in the CPPI Practice Forum section of Pharmacy Practice which explores opportunities for advancing CMM in value-based payment models. The commentary provides an overview of current and emerging alternative payment model approaches, including national and regional demonstration projects from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI). In addition, it illustrates opportunities for integrating CMM services to achieve medication optimization in evolving CMMI payment models and demonstration projects, mainly in primary care settings.Provider Status RecognitionThe ACCP Medicare benefit reform initiative continues in 2020-2021 through ACCP’s efforts in the Payment and Policy Solutions workgroup of GTMRx. The workgroup is and representatives from several of the GTMRx Executive Member organizations.Advocacy efforts continue to include engagement in the work of CMMI, CPC+, and the VA, as well as Medicare Quality Payment Program activities focused on medication optimization and enhanced team-based care opportunities for clinical anization Update (other information) Planning is underway for ACCP’s Spring Forum 2021 to be held in April 2021. This virtual meeting will offer a variety of programs, including: Preparatory/recertification courses in Pharmacotherapy and Critical CareBiostatistics PrimerACCP Academy Certificate programming in teaching/learning, research/scholarship, and leadership/management Clinical Practice Forum (CMM and preceptor development lectures and workshops)New releases in the Self-Assessment Programs (SAPs) for home-study board recertification began last month with the next book in the Pharmacotherapy series (PSAP) focused on infectious diseases. New books for the Ambulatory Care, Critical Care and Pediatrics series will be released in March. More details on these continuing pharmacy education/recertification offerings are available here. The ACCP Foundation announced new initiatives planned for 2021 to support the advancement of clinical pharmacy practice, scholarship, and research. The Focused Investigator Training (FIT) and Mentored Research Investigator (MeRIT) programs will be held June 21-25, 2021 on the campus of the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy.
