Journal Club/Drug Monograph Presentation

Journal Club Presentation Guidelines

1. Students will have 5-10 minutes (max) to evaluate an article assigned or an article approved by their preceptor.

2. The student should send out an electronic (pdf) copy of their article via e-mail to all preceptors, residents, and current rotation students at least one week prior to the scheduled journal club date.

3. A brief handout should be prepared to help summarize the main points of the article. At a minimum, the handout should contain the following headers and information and the student should be prepared to discuss the following during their presentation:

a. Title, authors, citation

b. Background/why research was undertaken

c. Objective (or hypothesis) of the trial

d. Study design type and brief synopsis of methodology

e. Results

f. Conclusion (author and student conclusions)

g. Clinical implications/importance of trial

h. Strengths and weaknesses of the trial

**Note** Handouts should be no more than one page in length, one sided and no smaller than 10 point font)

4. We would recommend bringing a few extra copies (around 3) of your article in the event we have guests attending the presentation.

5. All students should read all other student articles and be prepared to ask questions and/or comment on at least some of the articles. Active participation in JC is an expectation.

6. Grading guidelines may be found on the following page.
