Accessing the full-text of journals
Introduction
For ease of use it is recommended that you login to The Knowledge Network with your Athens username and password first. If you have not yet registered, click the link in the top left of the home page and follow the on-screen instructions.

To easily search for known journal titles and articles use the Narrow your search options.

This opens the Library tab.

From your search results, click on the title of the journal or article to link through to the supplier website. The screenshots below provides an example of the search results page which links through to the light box, providing details of the reference and link through to full-text options.

Click on the supplier link (in this case Elsevier Science Direct Complete) to be directed through to access the full-text. If the resource is not available from The Knowledge Network you will be presented with alternative options for requesting the full-text.
You can also link through to NHS Scotland full-text content when searching bibliographic databases. Databases provide more detailed options for literature searching. You can find the full list of databases (e.g. Medline, CINAHL) from the Library tab on The Knowledge Network homepage.
Navigating the supplier’s websites
Each supplier’s website is different but as a general rule you need to look for the ‘log in with Athens’ link. If you have logged in already you will not need to log in again otherwise enter your Athens username and password.

Please note BMJ and EBSCOhost titles can be accessed on NHS premises without the requirement to login.
For some suppliers it is necessary to contact knowledge@nes.scot.nhs.uk for a password.
