Course name: Professional Field Experience: Military Working Dog Physical Therapy
Course description: This course is intended for a pre-veterinary student with at least a 3rd year student status and an interest in canine physical therapy. The student selected for this externship will spend 1-4 weeks observing and assisting in physical therapy treatments for military working dogs under the care of the Department of Defense Military Working Dog Veterinary Service in Lackland AFB, San Antonio, TX.
Course expectations:
1. Understand how physical treatments are chosen for military working dogs and what the mechanisms for action are.
2. Assist in performing selected physical therapy treatments, under the direction of a certified veterinary physical therapist.
3. Participate in hospital rounds and observe procedures in other sections of the hospital as directed by instructors.
4. Read reference materials and report on findings as directed by instructors.
5. Record daily experiences in an excel file journal and submit to Dr. Dailey.
6. Provide weekly verbal reports to Dr. Dailey.
7. Prepare and submit a final paper to Dr. Dailey summarizing course experiences.

Financial arrangements with Cooperator. Cooperator will reserve low cost housing on base, but student will be responsible for all expenses. Student will have to rent a car for transportation.
