It builds students’ knowledge, skills, and positive attitudes about health. The health education program motivates students to improve and maintain their health, prevent disease, and reduce risky behaviors. A planned and sequential 6-8 health education curriculum addresses all dimensions of health in a way that results in students who possess the knowledge and skills to live a healthy life. By providing a comprehensive middle school health education program, we are facilitating optimum student learning. When children are healthy, they can learn; when they are educated, they can stay healthy.Classroom Rules and Procedures:Good attendance is imperative (required) for your success.Students with excused absence will have the same number of days to make up work as the number they were absent. If you are going to be absent from school and know ahead of time, you make ask for your work in advance, but it is due the day you return. If it is not turned in upon your return, it will only be accepted for the late work policy regarding reduced earned credit. It is the student’s responsibility to get any missed work.Assignments will be written on the board daily and compounded weekly on the calendar. So be sure to check the board daily and calendar if you were absent. Any handouts given will be found in the folder for the corresponding day. Do not just look for handouts in the folders and assume that if there are no handouts, there was no assignment. ALWAYS check the calendar!Being absent the day before a test does not excuse you from taking that test. The day before a test will usually be checking a review or going over questions for the test. Tests and quizzes are generally announced well in advance, and you should be preparing or studying for them well in advance. Pop quizzes are just that, and you will take them the day you return. Late work is accepted for reduced credit earned for up to 5 days. Each day late educes the credit by 10% of your earned grade. It will not be accepted after 5 days. However, you are still responsible for the information contained in the assignment and any tests or quizzes on the content. When turning in work late, you must put LATE across the top, the date the assignment was due at the top, and the date the assignment was turned in next to the due date. Late work gets turned into the appropriate tray above the regular turn in bins.Be responsible and get work in on time.If an assignment is due and you forget it in your locker, it may be turned in immediately after class without penalty. This means you have turned it in BEFORE you go to your next hour class. If not, it will be considered late. Passes to go to lockers for assignments will not be given. If you have a special circumstance, see Ms. Healy before class starts. This doesn’t guarantee you anything, but each situation is different and will be handled accordingly. Tests and Quizzes can be re-taken either before school, at lunch, or after school. You must make arrangements with Ms. Healy. Re-takes must be done within 3 school days from return of your original test or quiz. See Ms. Healy for the retake form. There will be additional work and review requirements for re-takes. In order to retake a test or quiz, you must have had all assignments turned in before the original test or quiz, and have no incomplete assignments (meaning you turned an assignment in half done just to turn it in.)Be on time for class. The tardy policy will be strictly enforced. See handbook for tardy policies.Be prepared for class.Sharpen pencils and use the restroom before the last bell rings.Bring all necessary materials to class each and every day.
