Movies For Ethics

Module 2.3 - Assignment One – Ethics in Movie – 100 ptsObjectives:Participate in a group activity with 3 other studentsRecognize and discuss the ethical content of a movieReport on the interaction and content that occurred in your movie discussionAssignment parts –Movie choice – Many movies have an ethical content. Your movie choice must be a movie you have not watched with ethical content. At the bottom of this document are some choices (but you can view other movies not in the list).Plan the Date/Time/Movie/Group of 4 – This part may be the hardest – so please be flexible. Inside D2L you can send email to the entire class asking proposing a movie/date/time. Once there are a few interested, please all self-enroll into a specific group that would watch the same movie at the specified date & time. The group needs about 2 ? hours for the meeting to view movie and have the discussion.Groups watch and discuss the movie during their meeting. Please introduce your selves and maybe wear a name tag during the discussion. You need to take note about the discussion and who contributes to the discussion because I’d like you to articulate the interaction of the discussion in a directed graph. Each individual student writes their individual report with the discussion, the interaction of the group, and the final views of the author of the report.send email to your fellow students to seek others to see the movie you are interested in.Once you have 3 people that want to see the movie you suggested --go to the discussion folder and sign up for one of the "movie groups for assignment 1 go to the movies" (5 points due Thursday, June 9)? (there are 5 movie groups possible with 4 max members in each group).watch the movie with ethical dilemmasdiscuss the movie in your movie group discussion each person writes their own report - no group report!Decide which movie you have an opportunity to see.? Ask the entire group (via email in D2L) if anyone else wants to see the same movie at the student center. (I'd like more than two students to see the same movie so that a discussion can be done about the movie).? This is your movie group.Focus on one of the characters and give the following for a 2-3 page paper: 0.? State the movie and the character you chose.? Give the plot of the movie in your own words.? If you use a source - you MUST give reference and give credit.1.? Analyze a character in a movie by explaining what virtue(s) or struggle for virtue seems to you to represent the character; 2.? Give two specific scenes from the movie to illustrate how the virtue or the struggle for virtue is depicted.? Give your thoughts about the character's ethical dilemma.3.? Give a small discussion that your movie group did about the movie.? This discussion can be done after you see the movie.? You can also meet for 10-15 minutes before/after class to do your discussion or in the VISTA chat room.? I don't need a transcript of your group discussion - what would be interesting is to see your view of how the discussion evolved by listing the members in your movie group. Then draw out the discussion threads done by your movie group - this would be curvy lines going from one person to another. You can use numbers to show the order.? The movie group can also use the D2L discussion folder which now has a discussion called movie discussion.? You would examine the discussion done by your movie group and "draw out" the discussion."Social Network"Smokey and the Bandit"Sophie's Choice" with Meryl Streep "Shawshank Redemption" with Tim Robbins & Morgan Freeman "Norma Rae" with Sally Field "An Unmarried Woman" with Jill Clayburgh "Station Agent" with Peter Dinkage "Saving Private Ryan" with Tom Hanks "Three Weddings and a Funeral" with Hugh Grant Gandhi with Ben Kingsley "Erin Brocovitch" with Julia Roberts "Minority Report" with Tom Cruise "Life as a House" with Kevin Kline "Music of the Heart" with Meryl Streep "Forest Gump" with Tom Hanks"Dances With Wolves" with Keven Costner "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" with Tony Randall "Salaam Bombay" with anyone in it "Cider House Rules" with Michael Caine "Monsoon Wedding" with Naseerruddin Shah "Ali" with Will Smith "A Beautiful Mind" with Russel Crowe "Chocolat" with Juliet Binoche "Marvin's Room" with Meryl Streep "Braveheart" with Mel Gibson "Secrets and Lies" with Brenda Blethen "The Good Girl" with Jennifer Aniston "Monster's Ball" with Billy Bob Thornton & Halle Berry "Signs" with Mel Gibson "Avitar""Atonement" "Thanks for not smoking""The Kite Runner""The Red Balloon"?The Room?POINTS are shown in ()SatisfactoryNeeds ImprovementUnsatisfactoryNot doneMax Points EarnedPlan and D2L Self Enroll into Teams of 4Student enrolled by date specified (10)Student enrolled LATE(8)Student never enrolled – instructor or system enrolled for them(5)Student did not answer/submit (0)10Groups watch movie and student discuss the movie in the group discussion areaStudent contributes to discussion several times with meaningful contributions (20)Student contributes to discussion several times with limited contributions (18-10)Student contributes to discussion limited times with limited contributions (9)Student does not participate in discussion (0)20Individual student submits their Assignment 1 - Movie Report into D2L Dropbox.?by date specified (10)LATE by one day(9)LATE by 2-4 days(8-5)Student did not answer/submit (0)10Movie Report contentGood explanation of the movie, the ethical situation in the movie and all is original content.
