Dear Parishioners,

I hope you are enjoying the summer months and the heat that we have had. There is a great need for prayer for rain and for those who make their livelihood from the land. This summer has been tough for many due to the storms and the severe heat and drought in our state. I was speaking with a priest in the western part of the state, and even those who have irrigation are not able to get enough water to their crops. The weather has been so severe that they wonder if any of their crops will survive. The novena for rain would be good to pray, and if you need a copy of it, you can contact Gloria. She will gladly print a copy for you. The difficult weather is a good reminder that things are out of our control, and it should draw us closer to God. He will provide!

I have been working on the Nature Explore classroom in the tree area on the north side of our property. Some have referred to it as a playground. It is a classroom, and a place for discovery and learning. The Knights helped on Monday to clear some of the small trees out of canopy and cut down a dead tree. The area will be filled with areas for specific types of discovery, and it will be a place that sensory perception will accompany other efforts, such as music, art, building and reading. There will be an agility area with a balance beam (low to the ground) and steps, a stage for music and drama, a digging ring, a track for bikes and trikes, an art region and a prayerful rosary garden. I doubt that all of this will be done by the beginning of the school year, but we will be ready to use it on August 17th, and we will continue to build it through the first months of school. There is a National Nature Explore program and parent and children involvement in building and maintaining the area is a necessary part of the certification. The program has proven to help children become lifelong learners, as it instills in them a habit of discovery and a satisfaction in learning which leads to a desire to learn throughout their lives. It is simple, yet powerful, and within the context of our religious beliefs it is a concrete way to see and understand the goodness of God who created all things.

I hope you have a good week, and let us pray for one another, and partic-

ularly for our beloved farmers and ranchers.

-Msgr. Tucker
