• Hosted board orientation for new directors on September 10. New directors learned about each Foundation committee and their functions. Directors initiated their service by joining various committees at the conclusion of the orientation.

2007-2008 ANNUAL FUND

• Completed the Annual Campaign at 106 percent of goal, securing $440,000 from 1,800 donors.

– 294 parents gave $18,662; the average parent’s gift was $62.

– 60 percent of the 1,800 donors were alumni; the average alumnus’ gift was $67

– 165 employees gave $25,500; the average gift was $155.

– 100 percent of the board gave $33,000; our average gift was $700.

DONOR RELATIONS/STEWARDSHIP

• Delivered invitations to the President’s Circle Reception with special guest Abigail E. Disney. The event will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 21, at the Genesee Valley Club.

• Completed the Honor Roll of Donors for inclusion in the Annual Report. The Honor Roll recognizes over 2,500 donors for their support during the academic year.

PAC CAMPAIGN

• The PAC dedication ceremony will be held on Tuesday, October 14, at 3 p.m.

• Completed the brick and paver patio and donor wall displays to appropriately and significantly recognize the valued donors who supported the PAC Campaign.

FINANCE/INVESTMENT/AUDIT COMMITTEES

• Completed financial statements for twelve months ending August 31, 2008.

• Completed quarterly investment return summary as of June 30, 2008.

• Transferred $4,586,812 to the college for scholarship and program support. Year to date transfers total $6,461,765.

PLANNED GIVING

• Delivered Ideas, the planned giving newsletter, featuring the $700,000 Koch bequest – the largest single bequest benefitting Monroe Community College.

• Hosted 130 estate attorneys, trust officers and financial advisors at a breakfast meeting on the Brighton Campus. Tom Gilman welcomed the Estate Planning Council membership and encouraged his colleagues to remember MCC when their clients discuss charitable giving.

• Delivered invitations for the Abigail E. Disney lecture to be held on October 21 at 11:30 a.m. in Monroe A&B. Disney will speak on the partnership between philanthropy and higher education.

PUBLIC RELATIONS AND COMMUNICATIONS

• Delivered multiple email blasts to various alumni segments promoting Alumni Week and Homecoming events.

• MCC 2007-2008 Annual Report produced.

• Foundations newsletter (summer issue) produced and mailed.

• Save the date post card and invitation package for “Perfect Partners: Philanthropy & Higher Education Luncheon featuring Abigail Disney” produced and mailed (event date: Oct. 21). Thanks to Bernice Hatch and Xerox for contributing the printing of the save the date post card.

• Planned giving brochure, featuring John Koch gift story developed.

• Alumni Week and Homecoming 2008 save the date post card, brochure and Web information produced, mailed and implemented.

• Salute to Excellence communications plan developed.

• Media successes:

- Democrat and Chronicle special “RocEd” supplement includes “Alumni Making News” highlighting Nancy Adams and Hassan Jones and upcoming events such as Homecoming 2008, PAC Center dedication and “Giving Back. Moving Forward MCC Alumni Contributing to the Community reception (September 28).

- Daily Record “On the Move” section highlights Diane Shoger’s appointment as interim executive director (September 9).

- WROC TV/FOX News “Familiar Face to Fill Big Job at MCC” highlights Diane Shoger’s appointment as interim executive director (September 3).

- Democrat and Chronicle “MCC honors record donor (August 29); coverage also received from News 10NBC, WROC-TV8/FOX News, 13WHAM and WXXI-1370 AM.

- RNews “MCC Opens New Nursing Facility”(August 28).

- Democrat and Chronicle “MCC tourney raises $65,560” (August 17).

SPECIAL EVENTS

Scholarship Open

• Hosted a special Appreciation Day for the golf tournament’s lead underwriters at Oak Hill on Friday, June 20.

• Hosted an exceptional golf experience with 120 golfers at Monroe Gulf Club on Monday, July 14.

• Netted $65,471 — including $26,400 for 21 annual Scholarships; 11 of which were pledged during the live scholarship call.

• Recognized the tournament’s leading sponsors: DiMarco Constructors & ADMAR Supply, The Buckley Group, M/E Engineering, M&T Bank, The Pike Company, Wachovia Securities, LeChase Construction, Mid-Atlantic CNC, MWI Inc., SWBR/Parrone Engineering.

• Thanked tournament chairmen Rick Brienzi and Brian McMahon for their exceptional leadership.

• Developed and sent an evaluation survey to guests.

• Reserved Monday, July 13, 2009 at Monroe Golf Club for next year’s tournament.

• Confirmed Jack Cannon, Cannon Industries as co-chair to returning chair, Brian McMahon, MWI, Inc.

Salute to Excellence

• Set theme of “Everything Rochester” for this year’s dinner.

• Established Lifetime Achievement Award; Brenda Babitz will be the Foundation’s first recipient.

• Completed personal mailings to secure and renew underwriters and participants.

• Produced and mailed 4,200 save-the-date cards.

• Secured a variety of Rochester acts as feature entertainment throughout the evening including: Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Garth Fagan Dance, The Drum & Bugle Corp., Rochester City Ballet, Nik and the Nice Guys.

• Secured 1,400 complimentary tickets to area attractions as favors for attendees.

• Secured 15 Honorary Committee members/underwriters as follows:

BOARD AND STAFF AWARDS AND PRESENTATIONS

• Governor David A. Paterson announced the appointment of Howard Konar as a member of the Monroe Community College Board of Trustees. His appointment is effective July 1, 2008. His term runs through June 30, 2015.

• MCC was the winner of a bronze award in Fundraising Programs in the 2008 Circle of Excellence Awards, a Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) program that honors exemplary advancement programs and activities. This year over 3,500 entries were received in 41 categories of competition with 363 entries receiving awards.

• The PAC campaign received a best of category award in development in the 2008 Awards for Excellence from SUNYCUAD.

• Karen Shaw reunited with MCC alumni in Chicago, Il., on July 12 and 13. The MCC Foundation, in partnership with PAETEC Holding Corp., extended a special invitation to the MCC alumni living in Illinois to attend the second stop of PAETEC’s three-city music tour. The event attracted over 25 area alumni from the state. Alumni had the opportunity to attend a special reception, meet PAETEC Chairman and CEO Arunas Chesonis as well as other MCC alumni and friends and enjoy two nights of exciting music at Chicago’s Charter One Pavilion at Northerly Island. 

OBJECTIVES

October – December 2008

ALUMNI

• Complete a successful Alumni Weekend and Homecoming 2008.

• Induct four alumni into the Alumni Hall of Fame; secure 8 table sales and $15,000 in Salute underwriting support from alumni.

• Secure 400 new donors to the annual campaign.

• Deliver annual fund solicitations to alumni engaged in Alumni Week and Homecoming events.

ANNUAL FUND

• Launch the 2008-2009 Annual Campaign with the theme “Making an Impact.”

• Initiate the campaign to underscore importance of our $450,000 goal.

• Deliver the first annual campaign solicitation to current and lapsed donors.

BOARD GOVERNANCE

• Begin process of identifying potential candidates for 2009-2012.

• Review reappointments for terms ending August 31, 2009.

• Facilitate appointments for all new members on at least one board committee.

MAJOR GIFTS

• Work with the math department on a mini-matching gift campaign to secure $50,000 for math scholarships.

• Prioritize future development initiatives; measure support for an endowment campaign.

• Facilitate 1:1 meetings with top donors and Dr. Tyree.

• Plan additional briefings for donors and retirees.

FINANCE

• Complete cash flow through next Field House payment and prepare final field house payment to county.

• Prepare for year-end audit with EFP Group. Audit is scheduled for week of October 6, 2008.

• Complete work on Banner consolidated monthly financial statements.

• Work on plan for automating scholarship information between Foundation and Financial Aid.

PLANNED GIVING

• Host 160 guests at the Abigail E. Disney luncheon.

• Deliver the winter issue of Ideas, the planned giving newsletter.

• Make plans for the next Alice Holloway Young Society Luncheon and E. Kent Damon Society induction ceremony event.

PUBLIC RELATIONS

• Execute PAC Center dedication event in partnership with College.

• Provide communication support for “Perfect Partners” luncheon featuring Abigail Disney.

• Continue development of the MCC Foundation Web site and e-communications.

• Provide communication support for Salute to Excellence – Everything Rochester dinner.

• Develop and produce fall issues of Foundations and Ideas newsletters.

• Produce planned giving and “honors and memorials” brochures.

COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE

Regularly deliver Foundation news and information to a broader set of stakeholders via email tools.

SPECIAL EVENTS
