Welcome to the K12 Family!

Below are some contingency plans to help you get started if you are:

- In the process of getting a computer - Have computer access but are waiting on course materials to arrive

K12 has provided you a username and password to use to login at the K12 website () which will automatically pull up your Online School (OLS) home page for you. If you do not know your login information, please check your email (look in the junk folder, too, just in case it landed there). If you don't see a welcome message from K12 with your registration information and directions on how to set up your OLS account, please contact K12 Customer Care at 1-866-512-2273 or your school's administration. Also, if you do not have access to a computer, please call your teacher and let him/her know that right away. You will need to have a computer to be enrolled with a k12 school.

First - If you are in the process of getting a computer: Do not wait for your computer to arrive before you log in to your account. You will need to start logging into the OLS (Online School) on your first day of school. You must find a location where you can use or borrow a computer and a printer.

A friend/relative Library If you have a laptop computer and just need internet connection try any public place

with Public Wifi available--local library, McDonald's, Panera Bread, etc. **If you go to a public place, take a headset along so that you and your child can listen to the Welcome to Online Learning course.

Second - If you have computer access but your materials have not arrived, begin the startup academic activities listed below.

Once you have received your shipment of materials, go to your daily plan instead of working out of the contingency plans. Also, let your teacher know through School Mail you have your books and materials.

Day 1

Welcome to Online Learning (WOL) Day 1

Work through this lesson with your student from start to finish today. You will learn how to move through the OLS, check School Mail, set up a student account, and log attendance,

Check Your School Mail

Be sure to check your School Mail several times during the day. Many families find that it helps to check it at the same time each day. An easy way to remember is to check it first thing in the morning, before lunch, and then again at the end of your school day.

Be sure to enter attendance for today. You will enter the amount of time your student spent working on any time spent in the WOL lesson will be put in WOL attendance.

Day 2

Welcome to Online Learning (WOL) Day 2

Log in to the Online School (OLS) and complete Lesson Two: Math, from the Welcome to Online Learning course.

Course Introductions

Read through the course instructions for Math today. You can find it by clicking the OLS "Help" in the navigation menu. Click "Online Help" and then "Course Introductions" on the left menu.

Math+ Yellow

You will be prompted to do Math today if you completed WOL Day 2 lesson. Complete the math lesson that is on your Daily Plan today.

You will be able to access the online version of the book (under materials in the lesson) and worksheets needed until your materials arrive. You can find your first math lesson by clicking the Courses tab, select the drop down menu and select your math course.

Prepare for Literature

Be sure to check your School Mail during the day. It is also very helpful to keep a running list of questions as they arise during the day and send them to your teacher in one School Mail at the end of the day. She or he will answer all of your questions in one reply School Mail.

Enter attendance for WOL and math for the math lesson that was completed. Day 4 Literature will need advanced preparation time to find a novel, you might want to read that section below and visit the library or bookstore today.

Day 3

Welcome to Online Learning (WOL) Day 3

Log in to the Online School (OLS); complete Lesson Three: Language Arts, from the Welcome to Online Learning course.

Course Introductions

Check with your teacher if you have any questions.

Read through the course instructions for Language Arts today. You can find it by clicking the OLS "Help" in the navigation menu. Click "Online Help" and then "Course Introductions" on the left menu.

Spelling

GUM, Composition, and Vocabulary Literature

Complete Unit 1 Lesson 1 in Spelling today. This can be found in your daily plan or by the Courses tabs tab, through the drop down menu.

Each lesson has a materials button on the first page. Learning coaches can find all materials needed for the lessons from this spot. The Teacher Guide leads the learning coach through the lesson. Substitute paper for white board if there is not one available. Each unit ends with an assessment to print and encourage the student to complete. Students must master the assessments with 80% or better. If students do not master the assessment, they should review the unit and retake the assessment. Your GUM, Composition, and Vocabulary courses will need to wait until you receive your supplies. While you wait, double up lessons in another course so that you have time to double up on these lessons later when you receive your supplies. Today you will complete Lesson 1 of your novel unit. The Literature 5 course has 4 units that require the student to pick a novel. Until students receive materials this is the best

From the "Courses" tab, select the drop down menu and select Literature 5. Learning coaches can see all the units for Literature. The novel units are located in unit6, 11, 19, and 29. Look for "You will need to select a novel for this unit". When you select this link, you see a list of novels. After students have selected a novel, visit a public library or book store to find the book. The novels are not supplied in the materials. You will need to secure the novel from your local library or book store.

and Science, from the Welcome to Online Learning course.

Check with your teacher if you have any questions.

Your History course will need to wait until you receive your supplies. While you wait, double up lessons in another course so that you have time to double up on history lessons later when you receive your supplies.

Log in to the Online School (OLS), complete Lesson Five: Electives, from the Welcome to Online Learning course.

If you don't have any elective courses, just browse through this lesson and mark it complete.

Check with your teacher if you have any questions.

Read through the course introductions of your electives (if applicable). If the first lesson in that course does not require materials you are waiting to arrive, complete the first lesson.

These can be found in your daily plan or by the Courses tab, through the drop down menu. Some beginning art lessons can be completed without waiting on supplies Music will need to wait until supplies arrive. PE lessons can be completed while waiting on supplies.
