Kalamazoo Public Schools Is Seeking Applicants For Assistant Superintendent of Teaching & Learning Services

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides leadership and coordination of teaching and learning services through an ongoing process of collaboration, planning, and strategic change. Organizes district-wide resources to provide strong academic experiences for all students and staff that result in a high level of achievement.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Implement the long-range vision through use of the KPS Strategic Planning Expectations. 2. Manage the alignment of all services and curriculum for improved achievement and academic excellence. 3. Lead major district initiatives in the areas of professional development, instruction, curriculum, evaluation, grants and assessment. 4. Coordinate the activities or organizational work groups to study issues and recommend actions to assure continued enhancement of district- wide

programs. 5. Supervise and evaluate directors, and other instructional administrators. 6. Supervise and evaluate summer school administration. 7. Build collaborative partnerships among the district, individual schools, and community. 8. Coordinate the activities of instructional departments to maximize student achievement. 9. Recommends curricular changes to the Superintendent and/or Board of Education. 10. Develops and manages the Teaching and Learning Services (TLS) budget. 11. Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION 1. Master's Degree in curriculum and assessment, instruction or equivalent. 2. Seven (7) years successful experience as a public school administrator or equivalent. 3. Evidence of academic excellence particularly in the area of critical thinking and logical expression. 4. Knowledge of current educational research and best practices. 5. Demonstrated skills in leadership, communications, and team building. 6. Must meet or be willing to meet the State school administrator's continuing education requirement. 7. Demonstrated success in both written and oral communication skills. 8. Successful experience obtaining and/or administering grant resources. 9. Successful experience in planning and directing district-wide programs as well as budget management and development.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

1. Knowledge of the KPS Strategic Plan and state and federal assessments. 2. Five (5) years successful experience as a teacher. 3. Knowledge of and experience with staff and program evaluation. 4. Successful experience in a multi-cultural urban school district. 5. Knowledge of KPS curriculum, instruction, and assessment programs. 6. Experience administering programs in one or more of the following areas: elementary or secondary education, Title I, special education, Education for

Employment, Education for the Arts, early childhood, fine arts, math, science, social studies or other specialized areas or functions.
