Welcome to the Summer season!

Another great night of ball kicking and cup flipping! Rain clouds loomed and rubber balls soared; plastic cups flipped and Coors Light pitchers poured! Don't worry if you lost out on the field this week, we know you'll redeem yourself at the bar. Everyone has their strengths, some are better off the field than on. Not everyone can be as awesome as some teams who have got it all (You know who you are!) All and all, another great Tuesday night! Way to be awesome!

? I heard there some rules changes. What are some of the new rules?

Most of the rules are the same, but we've changed a few rules to make the game more fun. Afterall, we all play kickball to kick balls, right? Oh, and the beer, of course.

First, after overrunning first past the cones, you no longer have to run back to the base into the baseline to keep going to second--you can run straight to second. However, your path has to take you back into the baseline (i.e., making a large arc through the outfield to second isn't allowed).

Second, pitches must bounce twice before crossing the plate to count as a strike. If the second

NAKID - Tuesday

bounce lands on the plate, it's a strike. But no more pitching through the air and having it bounce once just in front of the plate--get that second bounce in!

Finally, here are some old rules that you should remember: 1) Tag up! If your teammate kicks the ball in the air and you take off full speed for the next base immediately, you better hope that ball is dropping or you'll be tagged out at the base. 2) Speaking of balls in the air, the runner is considered "tagged up" as soon the ball touches a fielder (or the ground, of course). So if a fielder goes for the ball but it bounces off him/her, or it's bobbled, the runners should run for the next base--they're tagged up!

? Could my hand shatter like glass if I dipped it in liquid nitrogen?

At -320?F (-196?C), liquid nitrogen is colder than Ann Coulter stamping passports at the U.S.-Mexico border. It's primarily used as an industrial refrigerant: transporting perishables, freezing broken water pipes so plumbers can service them without getting soaked, preserving medical samples--nothing too glamorous, really, unless you're into frozen sperm. In college labs wild-eyed professors do science tricks with liquid nitrogen. "You could dip your finger for a very short time with no ill effects," says Jim Peploski, professor of chemistry at Clarkson University. "The skin's warmth causes liquid nitrogen to boil rapidly, surrounding the finger with a pocket of nitrogen gas." And if you leave those fingers submerged more than a quick second? "Prolonged exposure would cause the interconnecting tissue, skin, and bones to freeze solid," says Peploski. "The hand would be like a frozen pork chop; it probably wouldn't shatter like glass, but you could use it as a good, sturdy club."
