Department Policies



John A. Ferguson Physical Education Department Policies

The following are policies and procedures which all teachers in the PE department follow. All students in every PE class regardless of course or teacher is expected to follow these policies. 1. UNIFORM – You are required to wear a uniform daily to P.E.

Do not cut or alter the uniform in any way

Uniforms will be sold during PE class the first two weeks of school.

If there is an issue with the purchase of a uniform, please contact Department Chair, Nelson Pardo.

2. SHOES – Students must wear appropriate athletic shoes during PE class. Shoes should be designed for physical activity. No crocs or sandals or other non-athletic shoes. Students wearing these shoes will not be allowed to participate in physical activities and will receive an F for the day.

3. ELECTRONIC DEVICES – Do not bring electronic devices to PE; any student caught with an electronic device will be sent to SCSI (Room 50) to turn it in and/or receive administrative disciplinary action.

4. TARDIES TO CLASS – Students of who are unable to get to the locker room on time will not be allowed in to get dressed. The PE department is vigilant about clearing the locker rooms in an effort to keep all students belongings safe and secure. A student coming to PE late must have a signed, yellow pass. If the locker rooms are already locked, meet your teacher at the assigned location.

5. LOCKER ROOM RULES – All students are expected to follow the locker room rules. Rules are reviewed with all students in the beginning of the year AND they are posted in writing in the locker rooms. All PE teachers are able to issue a detention or take other disciplinary action to any student breaking a rule while in the locker rooms.

6. STUDENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR OWN PERSONAL BELONGINGS – The PE department cannot and will not take responsibility for lost or stolen items from the locker rooms. Be sure to lock all valuables in lockers during class OR do not bring them in the locker rooms at all.

7. LOCKS – Students are required to purchase the Ferguson issued combination lock. No other locks will be allowed in the locker rooms. When found, non-Ferguson locks will be cut off.

8. LOCKERS – Each student will be issued a locker when they bring in the full required uniform (shorts and shirt) AND a Ferguson lock. All students are required to have their own lockers. No sharing of lockers.

9. FIRST DAY TO DRESS OUT - We begin dressing out on Tuesday, September 2nd (B day) and Wednesday,

September 3rd (A day). All students are expected to be dressed from these days forward.

10. DRESS OUT EVERYDAY – All students are expected to be prepared to dress out on every day they are scheduled for PE . There is no acceptable excuse for not dressing out. Be prepared.

10. MISS DRESSING OUT 4 TIMES IN A 9 WEEKS = F (fail) THE 9 WEEKS.

11. NO RESTROOM PASSES - during class. Get into the habit of using them in the locker rooms before class.

12. COLD DAYS - All students are expected to dress out on cold days. Students may dress out in regular uniform and wear sweats/sweaters/jackets OVER PE uniform. Students may not wear PE uniform OVER school uniform. This will be considered a no dress.

13. NO FOOD, DRINK OR GUM IN PE – Students may bring a water bottle to class when outside. No water bottles in the gym.

14. BULLYING/HARRASSMENT AND VIOLENCE will not be tolerated. Any student experiencing an issue with any of these should communicate immediately with your teacher or any of the teachers in the PE department.

15. TEACHER OFFICES - No students will be allowed in locker room offices. We do not store student belongings in the offices.

16. NO EATING IN THE P.E. HALLWAY - This includes athletes and trainers.

17. VARSITY LOCKER ROOMS – are closed during the school day. They are open before school and after school only. Students will not be let into the varsity during the school day. Only YOUR COACH can let you into the VARSITY locker room…not the PE teachers.

18. NO BAGS IN CLASS – Students are not allowed to bring bags or other belongings with them to class. All personal items must be left in the locker rooms during class. Students must to return to the locker rooms after class.

19. BUILDING 10 – No students are allowed into building during PE; not for water or restrooms.

20. MEDICALS – The following procedure must occur when a student is injured or ill and cannot participate in PE class for more than one day:

a. provide an original doctor’s note

b. complete Participation Release Form (found on the website under Departments, Physical Education)

c. turn in both to teacher and ask for alternate assignment
