2005 Plan
Mission for the East Cobb Park
To create, enhance, and continue to develop the East Cobb Park as a community asset, which heightens the sense of connectedness in East Cobb, preserves green space, and provides a safe and beautiful place for children of all ages to gather, learn, and play.
Vision for the Friends of the East Cobb Park
Be regarded as the model community park in Metro Atlanta.
Measures of success:
▪ All space available for expansion is acquired, developed, and funded.
▪ The relationship between the Friends of the East Cobb Park and the County is regarded as the finest example of a public-private partnership in the Metro Atlanta region and others seek to learn from our success.
▪ The park is fully utilized and becomes regarded as the place where the citizens of East Cobb meet when a convenient, casual passive park location is desirable.
▪ The excitement in the park is such that we maintain a large list of active volunteers and donors with very little effort.
Objectives/Strategy for the Friends of the East Cobb Park
1. Remain financially sound by effective fundraising and making decisions that reflect prudent spending behavior.
Measure: end the year in the black
2. Market the East Cobb Park to the community in such a manner that fundraising become an easier matter.
Measure: achieve financial goals
3. Market the East Cobb Park to the community in such a manner that increased usage reflects improved awareness of the park.
Measures: number/size of events booked and average daily attendance as measured by random sampling of participants
4. Deliver a very high quality product that meets the high standards of the community.
Measures: number/size of events booked, average daily attendance measured by random sampling of participants, and qualitative feedback collected from users
5. Define the long term facility plan for the park and outline the actions, programs, relationships and/or projects that will be needed to achieve the plan and to add speed into our process of running the operations of the park.
Measures: produce a plan by the end of 2005 that gets approved by the Friends of East Cobb Park Board of Trustees and Cobb County Government.
The President’s Primary Programs/Projects for 2005
1. Update the contact directory for Park boards, committees, and other volunteers. (Communications and Marketing Committee and Board and Volunteer Development Committee)
2. Enhance and update the Park website to be more user-friendly. (Communications and Marketing Committee)
3. Strategically locate the marketing board at the Park to take advantage of the current construction activities. (Site Development and Maintenance Committee with support from the Communications and Marketing Committee)
4. Finalize the marketing brochure and establish a plan to blanket the community. (Communications and Marketing Committee and Fundraising Committee)
5. Establish opportunities and ways to get the community involved with the Park and continue to develop relationships with Ms. Tritt and others. (Fundraising Committee and Operations and Community Involvement Committee)
6. Oversee and ensure the quality of the current construction projects at the Park. (Site Development and Maintenance Committee)

The President’s Secondary Programs/Projects:
1. Tritt Easement/Mulch – This project has been completed for the current period and was extremely successful. Other such ventures will have to be explored. (Site Development and Maintenance Committee)
2. Holiday Lights. (Christi Wright)
3. Golf Tournament – We need to establish a committee to organize this event. (Fundraising Committee)
4. Auction/Wine Tasting – We need to establish a committee to organize this event. (To Be Determined)
5. Future Events at the Park – Suggestions on additional events are encouraged. (Everyone)
6. Explore installing soft drink machines or similar in the Park. (Site Development and Maintenance)
7. Add additional swings in the park. (Site Development and Maintenance)
8. Run/Walk at the Park. (Junior Advisory Board)

Mission: 1. Coordinate the interface between all Committees for the President.
2. Coordinate the development and maintenance of the East Cobb Park 2005 Plan.
3. Ensure the By-Laws and other governance issues are addressed
4. Establish metrics of success and share them with appropriate groups.
5. Coordinate with the County on the long-term goals for the park.
Programs/
Projects: 1. Develop random sampling method for determining attendance.
2. Create the final 2005 East Cobb Plan with committees to implement the elements of the Plan and keep the Plan updated.
3. Monitor progress of committee activities for the year.
4. Assess future needs of the current park infrastructure by interviewing current users.
5. Host a meeting with the current President and the Past Presidents Association to review all elements of the Plan.
6. Develop a succession planning methodology.

2. Improve fundraising for cobblestones, picket and bench sales.
3. Finalize marketing brochure, and develop a strategy for distribution to the community.
4. Involve the Board to develop and implement successful new fundraising events.
5. Develop methods and techniques to tap into the Homeowners Associations.
6. Research the opportunity to utilize lights from Life College.
7. Explore, with input from the banking community, the merits of a contribution “drop box” at the Park.
8. Develop communications with surrounding neighbors.

Projects: 1. Draft the Facility Installation / Donations Contract Application and post on the Park’s Website.
2. Draft the policy for what the Park can be used for relative to events and the Application Form that can be used to request space and time within the park and post of the Park’s Website.
3. Establish a link from the Park’s Website to the County’s Website as it pertains to the policy and procedures regarding the Park.

Mission: 1. To serve as the official external spokespersons for the Park. As examples, this can be to answer calls from the media, serve as point of contact for key community organizations, and to proactively develop press releases for key information needs in the community for MDJ, the East Cobber, etc.
2. Develop internal communication tools for Park Board members and volunteers to keep them updated – especially letting them know about items appearing in the media.
3. To develop the look/feel of marketing letters, materials, advertisements, etc. – Brand the Park.
4. Serve as the clearing house for general information about the park (e.g. history, articles in publications, etc.) – maintain good files.
5. Maintain the Park Web Site.
6. Maintain the master calendar of events, post it on the Web Site, communicate these key event dates to the Chamber and other organizations.
7. Take responsibilities for sending thank you notes to all donors and maintain a data base (names, addresses, etc.) of these donors to be used in routine communications.
8. Maintain an up-to-date list of names, phone numbers, e-mail addresses, mailing addresses, company affiliation, etc.
9. Coordinate with Finance Committee.
Programs/
Projects: 1. Develop a mailing list of possible supporters of the Park such as the homeowners associations in each subdivision in the East Cobb area.
2. Spruce up and update the Web Site.
3. Publish the East Cobb Park newsletter on a routine basis.
4. Partner with Channel 23 and develop a video describing the Park and how to get involved, run the tape on Channel 23 programming, and make DVD’s that the Friends can use to promote the Park in a number of venues.
5. Seek free to very low cost advertising in the East Cobber.

Junior Advisory Board Committee

Mission: 1. To involve the youth of the community in enhancing the East Cobb Park.
2. Create a sense of pride in the park among the youth in East Cobb and a sense of community.
3. Provide documented service hours credit for our youth.
4. Work very closely with the Site Development and Maintenance Committee.
Programs/
Projects: 1. Actively involve the East Cobb youth, fifth graders to high school seniors, in the enhancement and preservation of the park.
2. Organize the Junior Advisory Board
3. Conduct fundraisers for the development of the nature rails
4. Develop leadership skills needed to work with a team that represents East Cobb Youth including teambuilding, meeting, organizing.
5. Increase local school support.
6. Partner with the Student Leadership Academy at Walton HS.
7. Develop partnerships with Youth Ministers and the Boy Scouts to seek out support for projects and the opportunity for these individuals to get service credit.

Mission: 1. Coordinate development of site plan for the property, including existing property as well maintain/market the vision for the new land as part of the overall site.
2. Coordinate maintenance actions with the County and County employees.
3. Coordinate maintenance actions with the Board and Volunteer Development Committee to secure volunteers for various projects.
4. Maintain relationships with the County to ensure effective support and periodic audits of the park – do not allow the property to “go down” in terms of appearance.
5. Work closely with the Junior Advisory Board Committee to link contacts with projects.
Programs/
Projects: 1. Continue to update the conceptual master plan
2. Develop the ECP Guidelines Manual
3. Oversee and ensure the quality of the current construction projects (Phase 2, Bridge/Trail Connections, 120 Sidewalk, Restroom Renovations, Parking Lot Improvements/Lighting)
4. Investigation of drainage issues
5. Establish direction of the ECP Overlook Garden
6. Develop the Phase 2 Tree Replacement Plan
7. Develop the Landscape Enhancement Plan
8. Implement signage program for current and future projects
9. Install the marketing board
10. Develop a formal relationship with the Boy Scouts whereby the Park becomes a “project” for aspiring Eagle Scouts.
11. Update the 7 member Committee that establishes the formal agreement between the Friends of East Cobb Park and Cobb County government. Work with Bob Ash to get this done ASAP.

Board and Volunteer Development Committee

Mission: 1. Actively identify possible members of the Board of Trustees, members of the Advisory Board, and interested volunteers by soliciting input from community leaders and confirm their membership interest once named (business community, politicians, other Board members, Chamber of Commerce, professional organizations, etc.).
2. Develop the List of Expectations for the Board of Trustees members, for the Advisory Board members, and Committee Chairs.
3. Develop a bio (name, contact info, company employment, other community service, etc.) for possible candidates for each of these roles.
4. Recommend these candidates to the Executive Committee for consideration so that the President and/or other Executive members can invite them to join the organization.
5. Prepare and deliver training/orientation to Board members who accept the invitation.
6. Maintain an active list of volunteers and help identify skills sets/roles for these volunteers such that when a need in the Park arises for help (e.g. parking ushers for an event, grounds maintenance, etc.), this committee can furnish these names to the other appropriate committees to support their mission or to assist with their programs.
