Legislative Research Commission Office Of Education Accountability

Foreword

Foreword

Born from the Kentucky Education Reform Act (KERA), the Office of Education Accountability fulfills a key legislative oversight role in ensuring a bright educational future for Kentucky students. As part of its work to fulfill this objective, the Education Assessment and Accountability Review Subcommittee approved a research agenda for the Office of Education Accountability that included this annual update of its Kentucky District Data Profiles.

The LRC recently created a mission statement for its nonpartisan employees. Our mission is to "provide nonpartisan research and support for the General Assembly and to encourage participatory democracy for the citizens of Kentucky." As we adopt new strategies to fulfill this mission, OEA's staff have done a commendable job in modernizing how we present this data. This publication is intended to offer legislators and the general public an easy-to-use, accessible reference, providing information about every Kentucky school district. When possible, we include longitudinal data to track trends over time. In addition, a dictionary of terms defines each variable and identifies each data source. This reference is complemented by an interactive online component that allows users to explore the data graphically.

Upon direction of EAARS, OEA will continue to update this publication annually, so as to provide an always up-to-date resource to aid the formulation of education policy for Kentucky's students.

Thank you for your interest in this report, and for your commitment to learning more about Kentucky's school districts.
