How the Kumon Method Began

Kumon was created by a dad who wanted the

Short, incremental assignments helped his son

As Toru's son started studying far beyond grade level,

Over 60 years ago in Japan, a math teacher named Toru Kumon wanted to give his son, Takeshi, a love for learning. He also wanted to prepare him for high school, college

and beyond.

Takeshi completed these assignments every day, mastering each concept before learning a new skill. The method was so successful that by sixth grade, he was solving calculus problems.

Takeshi's abilities improved, and interest in Toru Kumon's

grasps a fundamental skill before moving on. ? D aily assignments take about 30 minutes to complete, and often include examples of how
