Dr. Aljuhani

1. Define the following:

• Mine Management

• Organization

• Directing

• Controlling

• Hierarchal Structure

2. List the characteristics of good managers.

3. A mine bought three pieces of equipments for a specific project as follows:

|Equipment |Price $(1000) |Salvage value |

|1 |550 |$25000 |

|2 |400 |$28000 |

|3 |700 |$23000 |

Assume the age of each piece of equipment is 10 years. Calculate AC for this project. (i = 10%) .

4.

(a) What distinguish mining industry from other industries?

(b) List the different methods of cost estimate. Discuss one of them.

5. Continuous miner purchase considered for $ 550,000 initial cost. An additional $ 5,000 per year is expected for operation and maintenance expenses for PM. Life of the equipment is expected to be 7 years. Salvage Value will be $ $50,000 when the equipment is retired. An average gain of 10 minutes per shift for operation is expected for life. The crew average 1.4 tons per minute available for productions. The machine will be used 230 days per year, and 2.5 shifts per day. Evaluate the annual worth of purchasing the machine (i= 12%). The ore sells for $26 per ton.
