Inquiring into the Past

Our Grade 1/2 students have been learning about the lives of people in the past. They recently held a `Classroom Museum' afternoon and stepped back in time with a range of objects used by members of their family when they were younger. There were VHS tapes, cameras, record players, records, an old train set, stock whip, bridle, crockery, dress, gloves and many more things. You name it and it was there!

Wednesday, 21st November 2018

I brought in a record player. It is my great grandma's and it normally lives in our shed. It doesn't work anymore. I never knew that we used to use records and record players. Now I listen to music on a speaker.

I brought in some records that my mum used to listen to when she was a kid.

I brought one cent and two cent coins to school. I never knew that there were one and two cent coins. I only knew about the one dollar and two dollar coins.

End of Year Reports For the past twelve to eighteen months we have been working on our move towards a paperless report system. The next phase of this process will take place for the 2018 end of year reports. You will receive a cover letter and student comment statement in your report envelope this year. In the cover letter you will be given instructions on how to access the electronic components of the report. If you are not able to electronically access the reports the school will help you with this. The reports will continue to use `I can statement's to outline the most significant achievements your child has made since the last report and include a written comment on aspects such as critical thinking, strategies, initiatives, strengths and areas for future work. I thank you in anticipation for your support of the report process and remind you that teachers are readily available to discuss your child's growth in more depth at any time throughout the year via appointment.

KPS Proud Day As a result of some surveys we ran with our senior students we have decided to run a `KPS PROUD DAY" on November 30th. We will use this day to launch our new motto of "Building Dreams for a Brighter Future.' The children felt that we need to take time out to think about all the things that are good about our school and celebrate them.

As the children are responsible for this day, they are currently working on what we will do. It is an assembly day so assembly will focus on celebrating our school and launching our new motto. We have been working on some large signage for the Lancefield Rd side of the school to promote our motto but this has taken longer than expected so might not be ready for the Proud Day. Please make sure you can attend the assembly. We will let you know what the plans are as soon as the children decide.

Help Needed On November 30th we will be shifting some new tables into classrooms to replace old tables. If anyone has some time first thing in the morning to help with that it would be greatly appreciated.

Thankyou Tina I would like to take this opportunity to thank Tina Considine who is our official gardener. Tina has worked for the school for many years and is paid for less than three hours per week yet contributes so many more. Tina has recently lost her Mother-in-law, her own mother who is not well and Tina has not been well. Tina is very much the quiet achiever. She goes about her work without fuss and seeks no accolades for the work that she does well and truly above and beyond her role.

Our grounds are something to be proud of and Tina is definitely responsible for a large part of this along with the small team of diligent helpers, teachers and students she has mustered together. If you see a weed that needs pulling, leaves that have gathered in corners or a garden that needs attention please feel free to jump in and help. If our children see us contributing like this it is a great role model for them to do the same.

Car park Can you please use the path leading from Sutherland Street to the portable classrooms and not walk through the carpark. Children and adults walking through the car park is an accident waiting to happen. Apparently we have had a couple of close calls at the Lancefield Rd car park where parents have parked to drop of children right in or over the carpark entrance. When staff have gone to go into the park and parents have pulled off this has caused some near misses. Please park well clear of the carpark entrance.

Have a great weekend everyone and thank you again for your support of our wonderful school.

Being On Time Matters!

This year Kilmore Primary School is focusing on student attendance and arriving on time at school. Over the course of the year individual students and their families have worked hard on being organised ? making lunches the night before, having school clothes and school bags packed ready for the morning and making sure everyone gets a good night's sleep. Help your class win our being on Time Matters Award by arriving at school on time.

Congratulations to the students who arrive at school on time. If you are experiencing difficulties being at school on time please feel free to contact me. Mr Brendan Thompson: thompson.brendan.b@edumail..au
