Drop-in?Bone Builders is an ongoing osteoporosis prevention exercise program. Research reports published in the New England Journal of Medicine and JAMA demonstrate conclusively that weight training and balance exercises give participants the strength and stability to significantly reduce incidents of falling and fractured bones. Building Bones/Balance is a weight training class which uses both stretch bands and light weights. Repetitive exercise over time builds strength and stability to significantly reduce incidents of falling and fractured bones. This thirty minute complete workout may be viewed as a “core workout” that provides an efficient foundation so that you may enjoy a healthy lifestyle. Free. ?Matter of Balance: This award winning program is a multi-faceted education program specifically designed to reduce the fear of falling and improve activity level among older adults. It uses group discussion, problem-solving strategies, video and gentle physical exercise. Program consists of seven two-hour classes presented by trained coaches. Class limited to 10. Program offered in spring and fall. This program helps seniors develop new skills and talents toward new career opportunities. Rental Policy: The Ingram Senior Center is not available for rent for social activities or meetings; however we can provide a list of other possible local options.?Name tags: All who participate must register with the Senior Center and wear a name tag with bar code. This promotes friendly interaction as well as accountability.?Registration: Anyone participating in any activity at the center must be registered. General participation is free for Salem residents; $50 annually for non-residents. We have an outdoor only registration for those interested in out outdoor activities such as golf, tennis, walking club, bocce etc. cost $25 this is only for offsite activities. ?Parking Policy: A senior center will never have enough handicapped spaces, so, if you’re fortunate to still walk well, please park further away from the building and leave front spaces for those more in need. Also, during center operation hours, do not use our parking lot to carpool with others—we have a shortage of spaces.?Salem Council on Aging consists of seven Salem residents appointed by the Board of Selectmen to serve as an advisory board to the Selectmen, being their eyes and ears to insure that Salem is providing the resources and services its older population needs and deserves. The Director of Senior Services is the Town’s staff liaison to this group.?Weather Policy: When inclement weather closes Salem schools, the Center is closed/all programs cancelled.
