April 11 - Divine Mercy Sunday

The sun is getting warmer. We are only 2 months from the first day of summer. The flowers in the church give us a Garden of Eden sensation.

In all this splendor, the gospel telling us to "Be not afraid, do not fear, it is the Lord," seems almost out of place as we sit in a place of beauty and tranquility. What could we possibly fear?

But in the back of our minds, we have the daily chores, work issues, family problems and other concerns. It is hard to let go completely. Maybe that is why we need Divine Mercy Sunday.

Jesus, I trust in you. Such a simple truth that is so difficult to do. In today's gospel, Jesus wants us to see the signs He has done and believe. Sin is not believing in Jesus. I would not say Thomas sinned by wanting to see for himself, rather I would say he wanted the opportunity that the others had. That is to see Jesus.

I know the painting shows Thomas reaching out to touch Jesus, but the gospel tells us that Jesus invited, but we do not know if Thomas did. The gospel does tell us what Thomas said upon seeing Jesus, "My Lord and My God!"

Whenever the priest holds up the consecrated host we should imitate Thomas. "My Lord and My God! I trust in you."

St. Joseph School Students Celebrate Holy Week and Easter

Holy Week and Easter was a very special time for

St. Joseph Catholic School students. They learned

about the importance of Palm Sunday and how the

week transitions from being very happy (Palm Sunday)

to very sad (Good Friday). Preschool students made

beautiful palms, and our kindergarten students created

a visual art project that represented each day of the Triduum.

On Tuesday of Holy Week, students in grade 28

attended Stations of the Cross with Father Ed leading

and teaching students how to pray at each of the 13

stations. Our 8thgrade students did an excellent job

leading the Stations of the Cross.
