CS for All Teachers

Project OverviewComputer Buying ProjectPart 1: Students will begin the project by researching the different parts of a computer. This can be done by jigsawing the computer components list. Each group in the class will investigate 1 - 3 different components. They will make and present a poster telling about their parts; what they are, how they are related to a computer and how they are used. (Students should use a graphic organizer to take notes, also be sure to display posters right away so students can refer to them in the next part of the project) Conclude by having students discuss the different parts in their group. Perhaps have students journal about which component they think is most important and why, or about any component that still confuses them. [Approx. 60 - 75 Minutes]Part 2: In groups of 4, students research computers or laptops for a given career. Students must come up with 3 OR MORE options for a person to choose from. Then give them advice on which computer to buy. Projects can be presented in multiple forms such as poster, powerpoint, skit, etc. [Approx. 60 - 90 Minutes]Computational PracticesDesign and implement creative solutions and artifactsCollaborate with peers on computing activitiesModifications Do not suggest search terms for careersLet students group themselves and choose their own careers, especially older studentsStudents choose a computer for a local business, community organization or school computer labResourcesProject OverviewProject Rubric (from curriculum)Exploring Computer Science CurriculumComputer Parts Notes Sheet (for students)Suggested CareersComputer Buying ProjectYour Task: Research computers or laptops for your given career.
