For the past three years her position has been a combination of teaching art and serving as the Art Resource Teacher. Dearborn is the 3rd largest school district in Michigan with over 20,000 students and 32 schools. The Art Department has 34 awesome art teachers who work together to be successful in the art classroom and to participate in many extra events throughout the school year.Art teacher support from the district includes an art resource teacher, monthly art meetings, art committees, and late start meetings. The online Dearborn Educational Curriculum aligns with state and national standards. Art teachers participate in a mentor/mentee program. We have art related professional development and apply for and receive grants and donations from many sources including the Dearborn Education Foundation and Michigan Youth Arts.Displaying our artwork is an important aspect of advocacy and community outreach. The art department hosts an annual student art show with over 400 students represented at the Padzieski Gallery hosted by the Dearborn Community Arts Council. We also have a year round display of art from each school in the School Board meeting room, and participate in the Michigan Congressional Art Show and the Optimist’s Club annual show. The Black Box Gallery hosts an annual art show consisting of select high school students and Dearborn art teachers. A student show hosted by ArtSpace and an art teacher show in the Rotunda Gallery are both a part of the City of Dearborn’s annual Gallery Rally. Schools rotate turns to have 5th grade students attend a daylong found object sculpture-making event hosted by Dearborn Community Fund and the MidWest Sculpture Initiative.48006006540500We are very proud of our annual Empty Bowls event. For 27 years we have worked together to teach students about this community service project and to raise approximately $3,500 each year to donate to Blessings in a Backpack and Gleaners Food Bank. This Professional Development Scholarship will allow us to spend a day at Rovin Ceramics and Motawi Tileworks. We will be using what is learned that day throughout the school year creating tiles with our students and having a display at the annual Student City Wide Art Show. ................
