Course Syllabus

Materials Needed

Textbook: Calculus 8th Edition by Larson, Hostetler, and Edwards

Notebook: You are required to maintain a three-ring binder to keep a record

of your daily notes, classwork, and homework.

Graphing Calculator: The use of a graphic calculator is essential for this course.

It is possible to borrow a TI-83 calculator from the school district while enrolled

in this course. Your teacher will be using a TI-83+ for classroom demonstrations. Students who misuse the calculator (i.e. game playing, not on task) will be denied the possession of the calculator within the classroom.

Course Description

The purpose of this course is to provide students with the fundamentals of

Calculus that are essential to their success in a college Calculus course.

Students taking this course must have successfully completed Honors

Pre-Calculus or both Advanced Math and Trigonometry. This course is academically challenging and demanding. It includes the study of limits, differentiation, and integration.

Classroom Expectations

In order to establish an effective and efficient learning environment, the following classroom rules have been developed:

1. BRING ALL NEEDED MATERIALS TO CLASS AT ALL TIMES. ( i.e. textbook, notebook, erasable writing instrument, and your graphing calculator!)

2. BE IN YOUR ASSIGNED SEATS, QUIET, AND READY TO WORK WHEN THE BELL RINGS. (If you are late, you must have a signed pass. If you do not have a signed pass – date noted - after third offense, office referral.)

3. RESPECT ONE ANOTHER, ONE ANOTHER'S PROPERTY, AND SCHOOL PROPERTY.

4. RAISE YOUR HAND IF YOU WANT TO SPEAK.

5. LAUGH WITH ANYONE, BUT AT NO ONE. (NO PUT DOWNS HERE!!!)

6. OBEY ALL SCHOOL RULES.

Attendance

Students are expected to attend class daily. When a student is absent the day an assignment is due, it is expected that the student will submit the assignment on the day of his/her return to school. It will be every student’s responsibility to obtain missed assignments from their partner, and turn them in to me upon completion within two days of the absence.

If the absence occurs on the day of a test or quiz, the student will be expected to make up the assessment within one week of the original testing date.

Note: Unlawful absences (cutting class, truancy) will result in disciplinary

action. The student will not receive credit for any assignment or test on those

dates.

Bathroom Privileges

The bathroom should be used before or after class unless a case of emergency.

Academic Honesty

Evidence of cheating on an assignment, test, or quiz through admission or fact

will result in a grade of zero. The office and parent will be notified. If a student

is caught cheating a second time he/she will receive a failing grade for the

current marking period. If a student is caught cheating a third time he/she will

fail the course. Any student caught cheating on or failing to take the final exam

will fail the course.
