AP Calculus ABTeacher:Mr. FowlerRoom Number:2120Email address:fowlerb@Conference Period: 6th Period 12:50 pm - 1:30pm (by appointment)Resources- My Website: Textbook: Calculus for AP by Larson and Battaglia- Khan Academy: (students will need to sign up and register for my class)Class code:_____________________Supplies3-ring binder or folder that is ONLY for mathDividersLoose leaf notebook paperPencilsI have a class set of TI-nspire cx graphing calculators that students will be able to use in class. You may want to purchase one to use at home. You must have a graphing calculator for the AP exam. If you have a different type of calculator, check to be sure it is approved for use on the AP exam. Grading (see pages 24-25 in Parent/Student Handbook)- All grades will be posted online on Skyward and can be accessed by all students and parents by looking for the link below on any of the above websites or the district and school website.18483947620000Link: (there is also a skyward app for your phone)- There are two categories for grades: Daily (homework, in class assignments, quizzes)40% Tests 60% 100%- HOMEWORK will be assigned from the textbook, Khan Academy, or worksheets given in class. For each problem that you work from the textbook, write enough information on your paper for me to determine both the problem and your solution without looking in the book. Complete each assignment the day that it is assigned. If you need help, first refer to the book and your notes. I encourage you to work in groups. Organized study groups outside of class will be very helpful. When time permits, I will answer questions in class. IF YOU DO NOT DO HOMEWORK ON A REGULAR BASIS IN THIS CLASS, YOU WILL NOT DO WELL IN THIS COURSE!!! Now is the time to learn how to prepare for a challenging class. Preparing for a test starts with the first day spent on the material the test covers not the last day before the test occurs. Our ultimate test is the AP exam. If you do not start preparing for it now, all the cramming you do at the end is not going to achieve a 5 on that test. You must be able to know the material to be able to reason through the problems you are given.- QUIZZES will be given over formulas and homework problems. Memorizing and understanding formulas throughout the year is key to performing well on the AP test. Quizzes may be unannounced and in frequent intervals.- TESTS are 60% of your average and may include assigned projects. If you are in class the day of a test, you must take that test (unless gone for more than one day prior). If a student fails a test, students will be able to take a retest and earn up to a 70%. (retests are usually taken as part of the next test) ((there are also opportunities for extra credit on tests))Attendance (see pages 29-34 in Parent/Student Handbook)- Students returning from an absence must submit the absence excuse note to the office within 3 school days (see page 33 for the required information in each note)- To receive credit in a class, students must attend at least 90 percent of the days the class is offered. (page 31).- Students have one class day per excused absence day to complete make-up assignments. It is the responsibility of the student to request any make-up work that is missed while absent. (page 19-20)AcademicsBe prepared and ready to learn!! Bring your binder and a PENCIL to class every day. Students caught cheating will receive a zero in their grade book. Please see page 37 in the Parent/Student handbook for a complete list of consequences.Students can earn exemptions for this final exam- No more than 4 absences that semester (includes excused, unexcused, and medical)- Must have a semester average of a 90 or above for the Fall (70 or above in spring IF taking AP test)- Cannot have been assigned any type of suspension or ALA and no outstanding office detentions- Must be clear of all fines and fees.- See pages 22-24 in the Parent/Student handbook for a complete list of exemption criteria.ConductRespect - Respect for the teacher, other students, and school property.NO ELECTRONIC DEVICES (except for a calculator). - If electronic devices are collected by the teacher, they will be turned into the Office.
