Entrepreneur Wins Poetry Contest

Nashua – A local entrepreneur has won a poetry contest sponsored by the Mason Public Library. Alexandria Hayes, President of Blue Moon Communications, a marketing communications firm in Nashua, was awarded first place for her poem “Petals” in the library’s annual fundraising contest.

“I was on a business trip in Las Vegas when I got the news,” says Hayes, “I couldn’t have been more surprised. It was the first contest I’d ever entered and I only did so because it was a fundraiser for the library. I felt luckier than if I had just won the jackpot at the slots.”

Hayes does a lot of writing for her business, which involves advertising, public relations and other marketing copywriting. Over the years, she has written a lot of poetry but says she never thought she had any particular talent for it. “Now I’m encouraged to keep at it.”

The winning poem can be viewed on the web at poem-petals.html.
