While he is there, he will be setting up a meeting with a gentleman who is involved with the New York CIL to get new ideas about building the Nevada CIL membership.Approval of Meeting Minutes from April 12th and April 25th, 2017 (For Possible Action)Mark Tadder, SPIL ChairpersonScott made a motion to approve the minutes. George seconded. Motion carried.Discussion and Possible Recommendations for Creating Strategies to Increase Awareness of the Independent Living [IL] Philosophy in Accordance with SPIL Objective C.2. (For Possible Action)Brochure / Rural Outreach AssignmentsDawn Lyons, Program Specialist ADSDDawn stated that she had included brochures from Wisconsin, Wyoming as well as a past Nevada one. She asked the group to look at them and give her feedback for the current brochure that she is working on. She is hoping to have a draft to show at the next SPIL meeting on June 20th. Dawn then stated that for Disabilities Awareness Day, she felt it would benefit the group to have a booth or table at the two Fall, Nevada public events: “The Pumpkinpalooza in northern Nevada and an Disability Awareness Day Festival that Mary’s facility is hosting She stated that the new brochures could be handed out.Mary stated that last year at the Dad Festival, Kacy had represented the SILC at a table and handed out surveys, getting about a dozen completed and turned in. She also stated that the majority of participants were people with disabilities.Mark stated that the Pumkinpalooza in Northern Nevada, was a great family event. He stated that he felt that the people who would represent the SILC at both events, develop a thirty second explanation of what the SILC does.Scott suggested that the SILC have an annual statewide SILC conference. He also stated that if brochures are being handed out, that follow up and record keeping be included in the plan.Progress Update for Proposal for Website for SILC George McKinlay, SPIL MemberDawn stated that the upcoming website will serve the purpose of promoting their SILC and that everyone knows someone who could use their services. George volunteered to represent the SILC at a table at the Pumpkinpalooza.George motioned to have a table at both the Northern and Southern events. Kacy seconded. The motion carried.Report on Progress of SILC By-LawsMary Evilsizer, SPIL Member Kacy Curry, SPIL MemberMary stated that a second draft of the bylaws is almost done. Changes are being made to reflect that the SILC is not a non-profit. Kacy agreed with Mary. The group agreed that after receiving the draft, they could email suggestions to Mary and Kacy. There was then some discussion of within a number of days of the present meeting, putting the draft on the website which is public and taking feedback from members.Rique stated, “Right, your every two weeks meetings is practically impossible so the fact that you want it two days before the actual posting doesn't make sense to me. So that's my frustration is we have this exact same conversation over and over at every single meeting. So, at some point you guys either have to decide you're going to fit within the parameters that we have you guys are doing it by doing it every twoweek meeting or you're going to go outside the parameters. If you're going to go outside the parameters I can no longer I can't give you permission to do that I'm just going to say do whatever you're going to do and you guys can figure that out. On the record.” Review and Assign Researcher for Colorado SPIL 2017 (For Possible Action)Dawn Lyons, Program Specialist ADSDDawn stated that she had sent out the Colorado SPIL brochure and that she and Mark feel that it has a lot of benefit because of the similarities between Colorado and Nevada.Scott stated that he had looked into it and liked how the Colorado SPIL had specific parts of the plan regarding what they are going to do to promote the IL philosophy, including who they are going to train and when.Scott motioned to nominate himself to draw up a document of suggestions to put into the Nevada SPIL regarding training. George seconded. The motion carried.Review, Discussion and Make Recommendations for Nevada SPIL Objectives (For Possible Action)Mark Tadder, SPIL Chairperson Dawn Lyons, Program Specialist ADSDThis item was tabled.Overview of Action and Assignment Items Dawn Lyons, Program Specialist ADSDDawn stated that George would present at a booth at the Reno Pumpkinpalooza, Kacy would present at a table at the Disability Awareness Festival in Las VegasThe entire group would be looking at strategies to promote the Independent Living Philosophy at those events and presenting them at the next meeting, with Scott leading the discussion. Dawn stated that she would have a draft of the Bylaws ready for the group no later than the next meeting. Scott would review the Colorado SPIL and present ideas for the Nevada SPIL to incorporate. Recommendations for Next Meeting Agenda Items and Next Meeting Date (For Possible Action)Dawn stated that she would have a draft of the Budget regarding the SPIL Objectives. Dawn stated that there would also be a separate agenda item to look at the Executive Order as well as an item to discuss Open Meeting Law Training.Scott would like to have something about the situation of the IL Laws and where they could be posted to be available to the public.Dawn stated that should have a proposal to present next time.The next SPIL Meeting date is June 20, 2017The next SILC Meeting date is June 8, 2017 from 10 am to 1 pm.Public Comment (Members of the public will be invited to speak, however, no action may be taken on a matter during public comment until the matter itself has been included on an agenda as an item for possible action.
