Conahy Notes

FOOTBALL

The intermediate footballers got 2017 off to a positive start for Conahy GAA when they captured the Intermediate county title by defeating Rower-Inistioge in the county final on Saturday last in Páirc Sheamiús Stiophán. The locals can point to an excellent start to the game as they led 1-2 to 0-0 within the opening ten minutes, the goal coming from Kieran Mooney. However, the Rower came back strongly as the half progressed and Conahy only held a one point lead at the interval, 1-3 to 0-5. The introduction of James Bergin and Alan Healy during the second half proved to be crucial to Conahy’s performance during the second half. The pair combined for four valuable points which kept Conahy’s noses in front throughout. Conahy were fortunate that the Rower were also guility of some poor shooting when scoring opportunities presented themselves. There were great celebrations when the final whistle sounded to signal a Conahy victory on a 1-8 to 0-8 score line. After being relegated from the senior grade in 2016, it means an immediate and welcome return in 2018. Congratulations to the players and their management team of Kevin Healy and Brian Rossiter.
