Companies can incorporate these trends into their websites in order to gain more attention from users. Websites and there various web trends also play an important role in enhancing a company’s advertising reputation and can increase sales significantly. The use of web analytics can be used to measure the activity of visitors on the site and this can give the company an idea of what attracts visitors to the site, what repels them and how to improve this issue. Since the internet is infinitely measurable, analytics will provide a way of understanding why visitors and users of the site do certain things. Companies, with the use of trends, can make changes to their site in order to encourage positive activity and reduce the negative.Internet marketing is one of more recent trends that many organizations are looking at. Overall this project should help companies learn about the importance for businesses alike to implement marketing plans and online trends.FLAT DESIGN:What is flat design?Flat style design is a very basic design that does not make use of any stylistic elements. Flat design is used to make things simple by giving the user a three dimensional view, i.e. the use of drop shadows, gradients and textures. Flat design focuses on using simple elements, typography and the use of primary colours. Flat designs are commonly used for user interfaces, software and web design.Purpose of Flat design:Flat design focuses on two main objectives. To work within the screen and accept the limitations thereby making other unnecessary options of the website hidden thus bringing the idea over to the user in a simpler way. The second objective is to use the simple design as a root of the website and links from the root will redirect you to more complex sections. The simplicity of the flat design makes the most complex of web pages functional, fast and adaptable. A flat design based website will work across platforms, one would be able to view it on a mobile device or desktop a flat designed website would adjust automatically to meet the parameters of your device. The process used to do this is by getting rid of any unnecessary styles and code. This also makes loading times of web pages much faster. How flat design is incorporated in the real world by companies:There is no doubting majority of design interfaces makes use of flat design. Flat design was introduced on a major scale late 2012. Windows incorporated this design into majority of their products. They implemented metro interface first on Xbox and Zune, before unveiling Flat design with Windows 8. From then this design only grew in strength and made its way to other companies.Apple uses the flat design style as one of their marketing strategies when showing off new devices. On apples website they aim to create ornamentation to draw people’s attention into buying their products. The flat design makes the products stand out and increases the appeal of the product.Google embodies flat design. They have done research on GUI and have found out that this type of design is attractive and easy for the user to use. For as long as Google has been around the homepage of Google has always been plain and simple with minimal artistic styling.GRID BASED DESIGN:What is grid based design?Grid base design implements various shapes known as style tiles into webpage’s. The main shapes used are rectangles as it makes the web pages look neat and sleek. The tile, usually assembled together creates a grid looking page. The grids are used to organize various web pages. Each grid is designed for a specific web page, thus grid based web pages are the most complex to implement but in the end the most rewarding. The purpose of grid based design:Almost every designer should have the skill to implement Grid design. Grids organize and bring order to a website this provides the user with easy browsing experience. A successful grid design should be colourful but not too harsh on the eye and have a simple user interface using style tiles. Style tiles help create, define and communicate how visually pleasing the website is brought across.Often the designer is limited to the amounted of information that can fit into a tile but that would rely on how well the designer approximated the space. The empty spaces in between grids can easily be easily filled by images or can be left blank for neatness. The main purpose of grid based designs is to use excellent visuals so the user can easily browse, grid based designs are usually neat, easy to navigate through, attractive and colourful. Hence it is being popular among viewers. How grid based design is incorporated in the real world by companies:Companies use block grids by dividing the web page into parts either symmetrical or asymmetrical blocks. The block sizes depend on importance. Site point for example used the same size for all the blocks as they were advertising various shoes. Another company “Meceta” musical used unequal sized blocks. Unequal sized blocks give priority to one image (the focal point). The company IGN a gaming based company uses this method of design in their website. On the top of the site it shows newly developed games in blocks allowing the user to easily select one to see reviews on this game. Following this are articles on various upcoming games but they are formatted into blocks. This allows the user to variate between the different articles and gives an easy reading experience. On the right part of the website there is a block focusing on the top 10 games and the ratings which they have achieved. The organization is well thought over and makes browsing the website easy.Taste spotting a food company implements grid based design. The design is recursive meaning the same size block are used repetitively. Each block contains a dish and underneath it an explanation. This allows the user to know the difference between the various dishes and easily read each one without getting lost.GHOST BUTTONS:What are ghost buttons?A ghost button is a basic flat shaped button with a simple outline and no colour fill. It is therefore transparent excluding the text and outline of the button but could change colour when hovered over. They are often larger than regular buttons.Purpose of ghost buttons:They are commonly placed in noticeable locations, such as the centre of the screen and are associated with sites that have minimalistic or flat designs. The purpose of this button style is to make background images stand out more: it does not obstruct the image due to its transparency and subtleness, create a button that will match flat web designs and if placed on the correct spot it might be able to draw the users attention to a certain part of the picture and they will be tempted to click the button. This way the image can stand out more. According to (Carrie Cousins, 2015), “Ghost buttons provide an element of visual surprise because the button is different than what a user may expect.”How ghost buttons are incorporated in the real world by companies:The website Harbr uses ghost buttons throughout their website to keep the user focused on the captioned blue background. On the main screen there is a convenient ghost button that when clicked on, scrolls for the user automatically and there is a contrasting dark menu button to provide a drop down menu. The scroll button is subtler than the menu button to show that it does significantly less.Visage similarly uses ghost buttons with a blue background but, to make full use of the website you need to sign up for an account. The login button is a ghost button whereas all the other buttons related to creating an account are normal buttons. This makes it easier for people who already have an account, to login and skip unnecessary steps in case they click on sign up again. Visage also uses large ghost buttons with pictures inside. Users might think that these are just pictures but when hovered over it is in fact a ghost buttons.Apple uses ghost buttons on their homepage to encourage users to try a free Apple Music trial with a relatable background of a guitar player. There are several pieces of text centered over this background and each of them is related to details about Apple Music. Just like Visage they used ghost buttons with pictures. These pictures are of products and their latest software and when hovered over the user will be tempted to click and view details of the products or software and might even buy it if they are impressed.VIDEO BACKGROUNDS:What are video backgrounds?Websites do not always have stills as a background, sometimes it is instead a video which is normally used to convey a message or it is related to the content of the website.Purpose of video backgrounds:It allows the user to have a better visual experience by demonstrating their product or using it to tell a story. This wouldn’t have been possible with a still background. The videos should not be too short because it will repeat faster and could irritate the user. How video backgrounds are incorporated in the real world by companies:Music streaming app Spotify uses background video to show that they have different types of music for everyone. The video is made up of small clips of different music styles and will easily draw the users’ attention. The advertising website for the movie Life of Pi uses video background to show snippets of the movie which will show people what the movie is about instead of using a description therefore this video will offer a more engaging experience. The online payment company PayPal uses video to emphasize their motto: “We’re here, there, anywhere”. It shows short snippets of customers doing payments in several different places. So wherever they are they can rely on PayPal to allow them to perform transactions.SPLIT SCREEN:What is split screening? The trend split screening provides features that includes a vertical layout dividing the screen into two segments.Purpose of split screening:It allows a business to promote two characteristics which usually includes a product or a service that has two equally significant features enabling the user to select from either two. It is also a great way to display two different aspects of the same system, therefore users will have no need to distinguish between a primary and a secondary feature and will automatically be able to focus on what is vital. It is also used to convey an idea of duality. In this circumstance, dividing the screen in two sections creates two spaces where it is possible to concentrate on different topics. How split screening is incorporated in the real world by companies:A restaurant website may place its brand identity on the left and then have various examples of the menu and dishes on the right side of the screen including pictures and more significant information about the products. A clothing website may also place their brand on the left with their shops details and scrolling images of some of its products, prices and sales on the right. The company Desktime??main function lies in the office-sharing sector. Their webpage satisfy the needs of employees who have an office and those who are looking for one. Split screening provides equal stage time to two significant features in their service. It offers the user with a simple choice leading them through the different processes.CONCLUSION:In essence, it can be seen that there are many things to consider and take into account when introducing new trends to a company. This is to ensure that the incorporation of new and current trends enhances the website, rather than making it too full of colour and events which discourages and hinders users. The availability of resources on the Web changes the way user’s access information. Since we are ever-evolving creatures or beings and since life and trends develop as well, it makes sense that technology should too. It is therefore important to be up to date with the latest trends in not only web design, to ensure users make use of the website.Since people experience content in different ways, content on websites should be presented in such a way that it stimulates their visual senses and aids them in the interpretation of the information.Online marketing positions the company in the minds of the community as a valuable resource, builds good customer relations, and contributes to a positive relationship with media, businesses, local government agencies and organizations. Marketing, especially the use of websites in companies, is about changing perceptions. Everyone benefits when we find out what users really want, and when we let our communities know everything that the company can do via the Web.REFERENCE LIST:Cousins, C. (2015, June 30).
