AEP’s 1,077 MW Cook 2 Nuke at 17 Percent in Michigan

The unit shut on September 22 to repair a reactor coolant pump.

The unit was shut on September 23 to repair an air leak in the main condenser.

Petroleum

United Arab Emirates to Boost Crude Oil Production

The UAE will increase crude oil production by 8 percent to 2.7 million barrels per day by the first quarter of 2006. The extra oil will come mainly from onshore fields.

Update - Nigerian Oil Platform Reopens

The Robertkiri platform was reopened today after militant unrest forced Chevron to close the facility on September 23rd. The Idama platform was also closed due to unrest in the region and has not yet reopened.

U.S. Will Open Oil Reserve Again

President George Bush said the government is ready to open its oil reserves again to curb energy prices and urged Americans to conserve. Bush authorized the release of crude oil from the 700 million barrel reserve after Hurricane Katrina struck the gulf coast on August 29th.

Update- Non-Profit Opposes AES’ Proposed LNG Terminal in Boston Harbor

The preservation group Boston Harbor Island Alliance opposes AES Corp’s plan to build an LNG terminal on Brewster Island in Boston Harbor citing a need to “preserve and enhance this resource for future generations.”

Update - Massey Energy Coal Preparation Plant in West Virginia Restarted

Massey Energy's Bandmill preparation plant was given permission to restart operations by the West Virginia Dept. of Environmental Protection. The plant had been shut due to a slurry spill that was polluting a nearby creek.



Update - Consol Energy Repairs to Mine Should be Complete in November

Consol Energy says that production at the Buchanan Mine should resume in November after repairs to a damaged skip hoist mechanism are completed. The mechanism was damaged September 16, causing the mine to close.
