Restricted Re-Opening – Update for members 13/7/20

Play

Singles – May be played without restriction, but maintain social distancing whilst entering and leaving the court.

Doubles – May now be played with the restriction except that adult players should attempt to maintain 2m social distancing whilst playing, as well as when entering and leaving the court. The LTA advice is that maintaining social distancing whilst playing could include “agreeing in advance which player will take a shot if a ball travels to the centre of the court”.

Social Tennis (adult) Saturday and Wednesday evening social tennis remains not possible. This is because adults are restricted to mixing with only four other households in a day and with a maximum of fifteen persons.

Social Tennis (teenagers) Teenager social tennis is now possible. The restrictions applying to adults do not apply to 17s and under i.e. those aged 17 and under do not have to social distance during activity but do have to social distance before and after activity. At its next meeting the committee will consider an appropriate date for this activity to re-start.

Net winders and net height measures – These have been removed from courts. Hynek will check net heights on a regular basis.

Change of Ends during matches – permitted only if players change at opposite ends of net. Otherwise do not change ends after games.

Hand shaking – Do not shake hands at start/end of play.

Court Priority/Booking

Booking – The committee are confident that the correct decision was made in not introducing a court booking system. No further consideration is being given to introducing a court booking system.

Court Priority – With only a few exceptions court availability has been very good since restricted re-opening. Saturday and Sunday mornings can be busy when the weather is good. Occasionally mid-week evenings can also be busy. Members who are able to play during the day on weekdays or on Saturday/Sunday afternoons are encouraged to do so in preference to playing at more busy times.

Waiting Before Play – When necessary up to four players may stand two metres apart from each other on the veranda. Please do not sit on the benches. Any further players waiting should stand on the spots marked on the grassed area immediately on entering the club grounds. Please do not stand immediately in front of the clubhouse as this restricts social distancing.

Coaching

Groups (adult) – Coaches are permitted to coach adult groups from up to four other households per session and in total per day. 2m social distancing is required.

Groups (teens) . Coaches are now permitted to coach groups of 12yrs to 17yrs without a requirement for the young people to social distance during the coaching. Teenagers should social distance before and after the coaching. The four other household restriction which applies to adults does not apply to 17s and under. The coach is still required to social distance from those being coached.

Groups (juniors) - Coaches are now permitted to coach groups of 11yrs and under without a requirement for social distancing during the coaching. Juniors of 11 yrs. and under are not required to social distance at any time. The four other household restriction which applies to adults does not apply to 17s and under. The coach is still required to social distance from those being coached.

One to One – Coaches may now provide one to one coaching to up to four other households in a day . Social distancing to be maintained throughout.

Tennis Balls – There is no longer a requirement to use balls marked with the players’ initials. Communal tennis balls may be used. If using communal balls, players are advised not to touch their face during play.

Mini Courts – Use is now unrestricted other than that adults from different households must social distance.

Practice Wall –May be used but by one person only and with use limited to 15 minutes if family group waiting to use mini courts.

Entrance/Exit

Main access gate to club – Generally to be left open (use brick) during hours of play. This avoids need to touch keypad and handle. First to arrive is asked to open and prop the door open and last to leave is asked to close.

Westgarth Avenue access directly to rear courts – Not to be used in order that members do not touch keypad and keys. Key in external key box has been removed. Access the club only by the main (front) gate.

Access to courts from clubhouse end and between front and rear courts – A signed one way system when entering from clubhouse end has been introduced. All gates should be pushed shut but slider to secure in shut position should not be used. Sliders have been made inoperable.

Court Benches – These could represent a risk to social distancing and spread of the virus and have been turned over. Please do not use. A number of benches have repeatedly been turned the right way around by members. Please do not do this and do not use court benches.

Benches at front of clubhouse – These represent a risk to social distancing and spread of the virus and have been removed

Clubhouse – The toilets may now be used. Other than this, the clubhouse remains closed. The committee will consider what measures may be required to allow a fuller re-opening of the clubhouse.

Hygiene – All members should wash hands thoroughly before leaving home. If you require to use the key pad or door handles within the club or have touched other communal surfaces, please use hand sanitiser immediately afterwards. The club will endeavour to provide a supply of hand sanitiser, however, for practical and supply reasons this cannot be guaranteed. Therefore all members are requested to bring their own hand sanitiser with them for their own personal use. You are advised to avoid touching your face with your hands during play.

Spectators – Not permitted. Please do not come to the club to spectate as this makes social distancing more difficult. Where the parents of young children feel that they need to be present during coaching etc., this must be restricted to one parent and social distancing maintained.

Visitors – Members may now bring visitors to the club. It is the responsibility of the member to ensure that their visitors are aware of the conditions under which the club is operating and that the visitor adheres to these restrictions.
