The Rise of dictators (wwii)

The Rise of dictators (wwii)

(1)The Treaty of Versailles (1919) was one of the peace treaties that brought World War I to an end. The treaty stated that Germany was solely responsible for the war and therefore had to pay to repair the damage done to other countries and give back a lot of German territory. Italy was disappointed with the Treaty of Versailles as well because it did not gain as much from it as other European countries. The Great Depression was a severe worldwide economic depression that affected the entire world but hit Germany and Italy especially hard. The people of Germany and Italy were suffering because of the economy. Businesses failed, and millions of people lost their jobs. Japan also suffered from lack of jobs and food shortages due to the depression.

(2)By 1923 Adolf Hitler was the leader of the NAZI party in Germany. The Nazi party was a political group in Germany) Benito Mussolini created a Fascist government in Italy that was based on militarism and racism puts nation and race above the individual, and oppression of all opposition. The people of Germany, Italy, and Japan were frustrated, scared, and suffering and wanted leaders who would once again bring their country to greatness. Hitler and Mussolini promised a better life and a glorious future but once they got that power, they became dictators and ruled their countries by force.

(3)By the early 1930’s Hitler, Mussolini, and Japanese military leaders believed they needed more land and resources to restore their country to greatness. The strong militaries of the 3 countries (Japan, Germany, Italy- which later became known as the Axis alliance) began to attack their neighbor countries- their actions will lead the world into a second world war.
