1.1 Viewing and Annotating Citations

Notes:

Welcome to this session on viewing and annotating citations in Leganto. In this session you’ll see how to determine citation availability, how tags and notes are added to citations and a bit about creating requests.

1.2 Citation Availability

[pic]

Notes:

Looking at our reading list we can see the availability and delivery type of each item.

If a green ‘AVAILABLE’ indication appears with the physical location of the citation, this citation links to a physical item in the library. (American Red Cross)

If a ‘View online’ link appears, this citation links to an electronic item available online. You can access the item’s full text by clicking here. (What we can learn from Ancient Greek Medicine)

If the item has availability in several electronic platforms a list will be presented from which to choose The same citation can link to both electronic and physical inventory.

And you can click on a citation to see more details

On the top we can see the citation’s details and on the bottom the availability and delivery of the physical item.

You can see the location of the physical item in the library and its status. And, you can initiate a request on the item.

1.3 CLA Copyright and Navigation

[pic]

Notes:

If configured by your institution, British copyright information (CLA) regarding the citation can appear when you view the citation details. This information is not visible to students.

It is possible also to navigate between the citations in the list by clicking on the arrows and the top right corner of the screen.

Now let’s say our students only need to read a particular chapter from a book. Let’s edit the citation to indicate this information. From the ellipsis next to the citation, click Edit Item. In the type field change Book to Book Chapter. Additional fields will appear. I’ll add the title, author chapter number and the pages the students should read.

The chapter title becomes the new title of the citation!

Editing can be done also from the reading list itself from the citation’s option menu, click the ellipsis to see the Edit item option.

1.4 Tags, Notes

Notes:

Depending on your institution’s configuration, pre-defined tags might also be available to mark or categorize items for the students or the library staff, if needed. To add tags to an item, click on ‘Add tags to item’ and choose the relevant tags.

It’s possible to know which tag is for whom by looking at the small icon displayed next to the tag. The ‘library’ icon shows us this tag is designated for library staff and will not be visible to students. The ‘graduate cap' icon shows us this tag is intended for students to see.

You can also add a due date to inform the students by what date they need to read the material.

You can write a public note on the citation for the students to see and a private note for yourself.

You can see the due date next to the citation’s title and the public note at the bottom of the item’s citation information.

Of course, students viewing the citation can't see the Private note.

1.5 Digitization

[pic]

Notes:

If configured by your library, it is possible to initiate a digitization request by clicking on the link for Digitization Request under ‘Request area in the citation details. This option will not appear if there is already another digitization request for the item initiated by the library or if the citation is not for a physical item in the library.

A dialog will appear asking you to fill in the required dates for the digitized material . If only part of the resource should be digitized, click the partial digitization box to indicate this.

Enter chapter details or page ranges. Finally, before submitting the request you can add notes to the library regarding the request and click ‘SUBMIT’

1.6 Library Discussion

[pic]

Notes:

You can view the digitization request in the citation details after you have submitted it. If the status of the request is not yet active, you can cancel the request by clicking the trash can icon to cancel it.

You can also write comments or requests to the library staff regarding this specific item. For that, click on send a note to the librarian under the Library Discussion area.

When the library staff member sees the comment and responds, you’ll receive a notification in Leganto and see the library staff’s response under the Library Discussion area.

This is a library discussion on the item-level, but Library discussions can also be on the list level, by clicking on the Library Discussion link.
