Individuals will be able to view and apply for board and committee vacancies directly through the system and to seek information on upcoming events and training. The Register is open to everyone, but it is an important resource to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, people with disabilities, and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex and Queer (LGBTIQ). It is important that this diversity is reflected in appointments to boards and committees and in leadership roles, to ensure the voices of women and people with diverse experiences are heard. The ACT Government set a 50 percent target for female representation on ACT Government boards and committees, and by 2020 triennially funding sporting associations will be required to meet 40 percent female representation. It’s not the maths exam the teens are about to fail, or the overdue essay, or even global warming. It’s a low buzz of anxiety, a quiet terror in the middle of the night. Girls have been going missing. No one knows if they’ve been taken, or if, for some reason, they have ventured into the bush themselves. The adults aren’t taking any chances. A high fence is being erected. All young women are now required to be registered with the authorities and wear a tracking device. They will be monitored and controlled; they will be safe. But this thought will not leave the girls alone: I am my own person; take me seriously.”Little Girls Alone in the Woods?dares us to go into the woods and seek out what knowledge lies beyond the border of respectability and rules. Of those people who drowned, one-third were known to be from multicultural backgrounds, the majority were adult men. People drowned in all environments, including beaches, rivers, lakes, swimming pools and rocks. We have created culturally relevant resources – social media tiles, DL brochures, A4 posters and short videos in Easy English, Arabic, Nepalese and Chinese (Simplified) to help keep our multicultural communities safe, especially during the School Holidays. These resources aim to raise awareness and knowledge of keeping families and communities more broadly, safer when relaxing, socialising and doing activities in and around the water.Keeping our Community Safe: Making Safe Decisions when Swimming, Fishing and Boating.
