Action! Adventure! The exhibit is on display May 16 through Aug. 23, 2015.________Saturday, May 16 – Members’ Opening, 11 a.m. – noon, Monte Vista Room. Museum members get a special preview of the exhibit before it opens to the public at noon. Public opening day activities, all free with museum admission, include:Jay Odjick, artist/creator of the graphic novel, Kagagi: The Raven, will speak at 1 p.m. in the Monte Vista Room, followed by a book signing at the museum’s Books & More store at approximately 2 p.m. Children are invited to make their own super hero costumes in a contest at 2 p.m. in the Monte Vista Room.DJ Byron Fenix will spin music from noon to 3 p.m. in the Monte Vista Room.Sunday, May 17 – A petting zoo, including sheep in recognition of the main character in Jonathan Nelson’s The Wool of Jonesy, 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Pritzlaff Courtyard fountain area just west of the museum main entrance. Jonathan Nelson will speak at 1 p.m. in the Monte Vista Room and sign copies of his book in the museum’s Books & More store at approximately 2 p.m.Saturday, May 30 – Theo Tso, creator of the comic, Captain Paiute, Indigenous Defender of the Southwest, will sign books from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the museum’s Books & More store.Saturday, June 20 – Create a Comic Workshop, presented in partnership with Phoenix Public Library, 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Dorrance Education classroom. Free but registration required as space is limited. Museum admission additional. Email dbegay@ for application. The workshop will provide an opportunity to learn basic terminology of a comics, views, etc. Instructor Kelly Pearson of Phoenix Public Library will use trivia to discuss how to create sequential art focusing on chronology and storyboards. The workshop won’t focus on drawing but learning the dynamic anatomy of a comic page.Saturday, July 11 – Jim Kristofic and Nolan Karras James, author and illustrator, respectively, of The Hero Twins: A Navajo-English Story of the Monster Slayers, will speak at 1 p.m. in the Monte Vista Room. Free with museum admission.
