Art 1: Drawing & Painting Syllabus

Instructor: Ms. Johnson BFA; M.Ed.

What this Course is about:

You will learn about the World of Art, how to Create Art, how to talk about Art/Art history.

• You will learn in a “Basics to Complex” format

• Use a variety of materials and tools

• Create successful artwork, in Drawing and Painting

• Gain knowledge of Art History and Cultures

Students will be required to:

• Complete weekly Reading assignments and quizzes

• Complete Projects on time

• Complete Sketch book assignments

• Complete Written assignments and tests

• ALWAYS bring a PENCIL & Eraser to class, and your Sketchbook

Emphasis is placed on:

• Learning how to Realistically Draw (3 Dimensionally) from Real Life:

• Learn how to Paint in a variety of mediums and develop your own style.

Textbooks used: Discovering Drawing, Discovering Art History, The Visual Experience.

**** Materials LAB FEE: $20. Due by Friday, Aug. 17 th

All Media is included in the Fee. You only need to bring a pencil everyday.

Media includes: Colored Pencil, India ink, Watercolor, Charcoal, Pastels, Scratchboard,

Gouache, Tempera, Printmaking and Acrylics. High quality Papers, Canvas Boards,

media appropriate Brushes; Sketchbook

*Grading Criteria:

Project Grades are worth 40%; in Class Participation (Excellent, Positive Good Behavior and attendance) is worth 40%; Exams and tests approximately 20% Grades will be updated regularly and be cumulative over the semester. Your Project and Participation Grades will be posted regularly On Line.

You MUST have access to Focus; be sure to sign up for LBHS computer access!

Class Participation points will be given every week. You will loose points for being tardy, unprepared, ISS and unproductive behavior. Late assignments earn 50% credit. It is recommended that you complete late assignments, for at least partial credit.

I expect you to be Respectful, Quiet, and Wanting to Learn about Art!!

Discipline problems are cumulative; that is, If I have to speak to you more than once,

you will receive disciplinary action and possibly a Referral.

← You are responsible for cleaning up your area (desk, floors) before leaving each day.

← Come to class ready and prepared to work. ALWAYS bring a Pencil to class!

← No restroom passes (only emergency situations). Go before or after class.

← Please stay in your seat, and be courteous to your teacher and fellow students.

← You are to be in your seat by the time the bell finishes ringing.
