Digital Drop-In Sessions - these are FREE, informal, no set number of weeks and no need to take an exam. Each session is 2.5 hours and there are currently 9 sessions available across Knowsley each week These sessions are to help complete beginners, of any age, to build confidence, skills and knowledge using computers for a range of activities to include job search, property pool, setting up an email account, online form filling, welfare benefit claim and renewal forms, accessing Universal Gateway, job applications, uploading CVs, online security, the Knowsley App, social media and much more. English and/or Maths support is also available.For individuals wishing to progress from informal Digital Drop In Sessions to nationally recognised qualifications, there are a number of Levels and Courses available. Below is a description of each level and the type of courses available through FACE. In addition to ICT courses, the service specialises in delivering English and Maths courses from very basic up to Level 2 which many individuals attending Digital Drop In Sessions find helpful to do alongside building their IT Skills.ENTRY LEVEL COURSES. Learning at this level recognises and builds basic knowledge and skills and the ability to apply learning in everyday situationsICT Functional Skills at Entry 3 (these are FREE task based courses achieved through putting together a file of work produced) 20 weeks @ 2.5 hrs per weekThis is suitable for learners who wish to be recognised for their achievement of a wide range of practical ICT skills for use in everyday life. It is suitable as a progression for those attending the free Digital Drop in Sessions. The course covers a wide range of topics including internet and online security, logging on and off and safely closing down the system, setting up an email account, sending/receiving emails, using Microsoft Word to create a document, saving work to disc/memory stick, searching the internet for text and images, inserting text and images into a word document, creating screenshots and formatting text.Digital Skills Entry 3 Certificate – 20 weeks @ 2.5 hrs per week. There are currently 10 classes availableThis is suitable for learners who wish to be recognised for their achievement of a wide range of practical ICT skills for use in everyday life. The qualification is also suitable for those preparing to progress to Level 1 Functional Skills ICT qualifications. The course provides an introduction to using a computer, including how to set up, edit and print documents, introduces learners to the internet and the World Wide Web, including using email, safe surfing and using search engines and making online calls, provides learners with the skills and know-how to browse and surf the internet safely and protect their privacy, introduces people to the use of a digital camera, simple editing techniques and how to manage and organise their digital photo collections. There are 7 modules and these are achieved through an on-line test at the end of each module.LEVEL 1 COURSES. Learning at this level is about activities which mostly relate to everyday situations and may be linked to job competenceFunctional Skills ICT Level 1 (this is an exam based course) 20 week @ 2.5 hrs per week. There are currently 18 classes availableThis is suitable as a progression course for those who have achieved an Entry Level course and builds on knowledge and skills previously gained. Individuals may wish to progress to ECDL qualifications.Level 1 Award in IT User Skills (ECDL Essentials) 20 weeks @ 2.5 hrs per week. There are currently 5 classes availableThis qualification introduces individuals to core IT user skills and applications commonly used in many businesses around the world. Completing this qualification will develop understanding of these applications and teach individuals how to use the software efficiently. Individuals will complete four specific Level 1 units and can progress to Level 2: Using EmailUsing the Internet IT Security for Users IT User Fundamentals LEVEL 2 COURSES. Learning at this level involves building knowledge and/or skills in relation to an area of work or a subject area and is appropriate for many job roles. It recognises the ability to gain a good knowledge and understanding of a subject area of work or study and to perform varied tasks.Level 2 Certificate in IT User Skills (ECDL Extra) 30 weeks @ 2.5 hours per week. There are currently 5 classes availableThis qualification is a Level 2 Certificate that covers core IT applications commonly used in many businesses around the world. Completing this qualification will improve understanding of these applications and teach individuals how to use the software efficiently. Learners will complete four specific Level 2 units and may wish to progress to Level 3 modules: Word Processing Software Spreadsheet Software Presentation Software Improving Productivity Using ITLEVEL 3 COURSES. Learning at this level involves obtaining detailed knowledge and skills. It recognises the ability to gain and where relevant, apply a range of knowledge, skills and understanding. It is appropriate for people wishing to go to University. Level 3 Certificate in IT User Skills (ECDL Advanced) 20 weeks @ 2.5 hrs per week per modules. There are currently 5 classes availableThis qualification is an Advanced Level 3 Certificate that covers high level IT user skills and applications commonly used in many businesses around the world. Completing this qualification will develop understanding and capability in the use of IT and teach you how to use the software efficiently. Individuals will complete five specific modules which can be achieved separately or when fully completed provide a full Level 3 Certificate:Word Processing SoftwareSpreadsheet SoftwarePresentation SoftwareDatabase SoftwareImproving Productivity Using ITECDL stands for European Computer Driving Licence which is an internationally recognised IT qualification designed to give individuals the skills to use a computer confidently and effectively.
