The Chaska Middle School West Knowledge Bowl teams competed Dec. 7 at Maplewood Middle School with 45 teams participating from 19 schools. This was their second meet of the season. The seventh-grade team placed 1st and the 8th grade team placed 3rd. Students complete a written round and then compete in an oral round where they answer questions on math, geography, history and literature. Members of the sixth-grade team include Jake Bell, Jared Sorensen, Sean Zipse, Cobey Oertel and Jack Swanson. The eighthgrade team, which took third place, include Puneet Arora, Peter Swanson, Hannah Christiansen, Stephen Robinson, Amy Cook and Logan Devereaux. The seventh-grade team, pictured, includes back row, Isaac Thompson , and front row, from left, Peyton Zivkovich, Eli Swanson, Jakson Kallio and Charles Augustine. The team is coached by Carol Scheffler.

iBots finish first

The "iBots" First Lego League team, comprised of seven students from District 112 schools, competed in the Minnesota First Lego League Regional Competition in Woodbury on Dec. 4. The team competed against 15 other Division 2 teams from around the area and finished in 1st place overall, as well as 1st in robot performance, 1st in programming, 2nd in building design, 2nd in teamwork and 5th in presentation and research, and will now advance to the state tournament in January. Public Notices

The Riley-Purgatory-Bluff Creek Watershed District will be operating an aeration system on Rice Marsh Lake from January 4th until April 9th, 2011, that will result in open water. Anyone on the lake should be aware of the danger of open water and thin ice around the aeration system. This aeration system is necessary to prevent winter fish kill in the lake. The aeration system will be located in the southeast quadrant of the lake; a map of the aeration system location is shown below. This notice is being provided with residents' safety in mind and in accordance with MN Statute 103G.611 Subd. 4.
