Exit Interview Questions

Name: Date:

Guidelines:

• The goal of an exit interview is to get feedback to improve the working environment for the future.

• Exit interviews are conducted only with staff members who are leaving voluntarily; never with staff who have been fired or laid off.

• The exit interview is voluntary and should never be forced upon an employee.

• Interviewers should ask each question and then listen and take notes, without interpretation, justification, or explanation.

• DO NOT:

o discuss reasons for decisions made in the past

o respond to requests for more information

What do you hope will be your legacy at the Sciencenter?

What was the most satisfying thing about your job? What went well that we should keep doing?

The least satisfying thing? Are there things we should consider changing?

What was the quality of the supervision you received? Any suggestions?

(If appropriate: Did anything trigger your decision to leave?)

Is there anything you can suggest about making the Sciencenter a better place to work in the future?

(Thank the employee for his/her service to the Sciencenter and the community, and if appropriate, leave the door open for future communication).
