It has become a big debate and has been already passed by a few states to legalize the right to use the drug. Whether you are against it or for it or even undecided there are numerous arguments that are made, and can steer the voters in favor for the different parties. The arguments are informative and I have remained undecided on where I stand on this topic. What exactly are the pros and cons when it come to legalizing marijuana and how does it affect us? The state of Colorado is one of the first states to legalize marijuana and one of the most beneficial outcomes of it has been the increase of state revenue from selling it. If the state of Colorado and others set a standard on a tax on the distribution of marijuana it would greatly benefit the country and the G.D.P. of the U.S. The money that comes from selling and making the product is used to create new jobs and can help lower unemployment by hiring people to maintain and expand the business. With the popularity of the drug businesses would have no problem growing, because tax revenue. The increase of new tax revenue would help with new projects like funding schools better, having better roads, or even create the ability for the government to make new jobs for officers, and firefighter. When it comes to the economy and revenue possibilities legalizing the use and distribution of marijuana is an obvious benefit to our country and state. Along with the recreational users those who consume and benefit from the drug would be people who use it for medical reasons. First and probably most importantly our soldiers who go out to battle are all affected mentally, physically and emotionally by the things they saw and experienced across the sea. Most suffered from P.T.S.D. and it can be an awful thing to witness. But studies have shown that the use of marijuana can help those with P.T.S.D. better control or even being able to cope with the illness by simply smoking a joint. A few states have already legalized it for those soldiers battling the illness. The second most common reason is the use of marijuana by young children who suffer disturbing effects of illnesses or handicaps. Although they might not smoke it there are other ways of consuming it. For example the use of it in pill form, cooking it or baking it with another product can do the trick. Finally there are adults who have been involved in an accident and use the drug to help deal with chronic pain. All medicines have side effects and can actually do more damage than good but it all depends on consumer to monitor and limit the use of the drug, as for me I am still against using it.Due to the growth of pop culture and the music of today the influence of artists or actors have played a huge role, but many people are still sticking to the fact that smoking marijuana is morally wrong. First of all anything that is illegal must be for some reason, whether it is because of the effects it can have on someone physically or even due to it impairing a person’s behavior. Just because the drug is being accepted now does not mean it has stopped being a bad thing, but similar to smoking regular tobacco it has become a popular thing to do. Next we can see that it can have a hold on someone’s life and can be addicting. Some people might choose to skip paying for bills, rent or even money for food in order to pay for their fix of the drug. Their priorities can become nonexistent and that is when it does harm to them and those around them. Studies show the consequence of smoking anything has the potential to cause lung cancer and do some major damage to your teeth. The consequences are great and the benefit of using the drug is plain and simple only instant gratification. Finally another interesting argument made is that marijuana is an introductory drug to other drugs offered to the public, whether illegal or legal but consuming them in unhealthy amounts. Many have gone down the road and feel that they don’t believe it will harm them but end up going a little too far and become addicted to other stronger and more harmful drugs such as cocaine, or meth. This enough is evidence too many that it is a mistake allowing the use of marijuana freely and letting it become more available to us and our children. There are many other arguments that can be shared on behalf of the use of marijuana and there are the negative points of view. Are we willing to trade money and new jobs for our morals and old ways of behaving? ................
