|Course Overview |Students will use the LEGO Mindstorms NXT and EV3 to explore designing and |
| |programming principles. Students will learn design foundations, problem solving |
| |skills, and overcome challenges as a team. |
| |Students will learn programming on the NXT and EV3 platform, which is a precursor to|
| |programming with such platforms as NView. |
| | |
| |Students will prepare for the First LEGO League tournament in November. The theme |
| |of this year’s mission is Trash Trek. |
|Other Materials |3 ring 1” binder, Worksheet Packets distributed in class, EV3 and NXT Education |

|Course Description |Robotics – LEGO Mindstorms NXT and EV3 basic programming |
|Grading |Quizzes- 35% - Worksheets for each unit |
| |Assignments – 25% |
| |Projects – Test grade 40% |
|Forms of Assessment |Each project is graded as a quiz, test, or homework. There will |
| |be a summative assessment in January and May. |
|Make-Up Work |Make-up work should be submitted on the day of the student’s |
| |return to class if possible. Please see me regarding |
| |arrangements for making up work after a long-term absence. |
|Make-Up Tests |All Building Discovery Projects are a Test Grade. At the end of |
| |each unit students will have sufficient time to build their robot|
| |within the required parameters and program it. |
|Preparation for Class |Students will receive Chapter Packets that include topics to be |
| |studied and assignments. Each student is responsible for having |
| |all needed materials in class and for submitting work on time. |
|Homework |Projects will be announced in class. All project based learning |
| |assignments that necessitate the EV3 or kit will be completed in |
| |class. Work must be submitted on time in order to receive full |
| |credit. Students should submit all Discovery activities and |
| |Building Discovery projects within a reasonable time after |
| |assigned depending on the amount of complexity of the assignment.|
| |FLL assignments will be announced in class. Students will be |
| |given an outline of assignments due and the points or type of |
| |grade allocated for each assignment. |
|Special Projects |Students will be given an opportunity to learn in a cooperative |
| |setting. Projects are equivalent to a test grade and are given |
| |with ample time for completion. 1st Quarter Project includes |
| |First Lego League Competition. Saturday morning attendance |
| |required in September and October. |
