Robotics-LEGO Robots

Overview: LEGO’s are a very popular toy that can be used to build very simple and very complex structures. These kits allow for step by step directions to building complex robots that are motorized by a computer.

Activity: Lego Robotics

Time: 1 ½ hours

Objective: Youth will build motorized robots using a LEGO kit.

Skills: Applying Technology & Science, Learning to Learn, Problem Solving

Procedure:

1. Install LEGO robotics software onto computer

2. Hand out a LEGO robotics kit to youth

3. Have youth start up LEGO software and follow the steps to making a choice of which robot shape they want to create

4. Follow directions, step by step, to building the chosen robot shape

5. Plug in the USB powered motor and follow the directions to create motions and sounds

Reflection:

1. Have you used LEGO’s to build other objects or creations?

2. Was it hard to follow each step and directions?

3. What other robot creation would you have chosen to build?
